1967 AMBASSADOR CONVERTIBLE
THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE LAST AMBASSADOR CONVERTIBLE BUILT. 1067 WAS AN INTERESTING YEAR AT AMERICAN MOTORS AS THEIR REBEL AND AMBASSADOR SERIES WAS TOTALLY CHANGED FROM 1966. AMONG THE MAJOR CHANGES ALL NEW BODIES, ALL NEW ENGINES , OPEN DRIVE SHAFT WITH 4 LINK, TRAILING ARM REAR SUSPENSION, AND THE FIRST AND LAST YEAR OF THE AMBASSADORS CONVERTIBLE ON THE NEW PLATFORM. THE PLATFORM RAN THROUGH 1978 IN THE MATADOR SERIES. THE 1967 AMBASSADOR CONVERTIBLE WAS AMCS FLAGSHIP FOR THE YEAR AND THE MOST EXPENSIVE. OF THE 1260 UNITS BUILT, APPROXIMATELY 30 REMAIL AND THIS IS THE ONLY ONE KNOWN EQUIPPED WITH FACTORY AIR CONDITIONING.
THIS PARTICULAR CAR WAS RESTORED FROM A #6 CONDITION PARTS CAR IN 1991 AND 1992. AT THAT TIME THIS CAR WAS USED VERY HARD DURING ITS LIFE. VIRTUALLY EVERY COMPONENT HAS BEEN REBUILT OR REPLACED IN SOME CASES WITH UPDATED TECHNOLOGY. (SEE SPECS AT END.) THE CAR WAS RESTYLED USING MANY PARTS FROM 1968 AMASSADORS TO RESEMBLE WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE 1968AMBASSADOR. THOSE PARTS INCLUDE: FRONT CLIP, DOORS, TAIL LAMPS, TRUNK, AND TRIM, ENGINE TRANS AND OTHER DRIVE LINE PARTS. THIS RESTYLING HS RESULTED IN A CAR THAT WAS NEVER REALLY PRODUCED BUT HAS EXCELLENT STYLING AND IS MORE PLEASANT TO THE EYE THAN THAN A STOCK 1967 AMBASSADOR. ONE OF A KIND!!! SINCE I HAVE RESTORED MANY CARS TO "STOCK CONDITION" THIS ONE WAS SPECIAL AND DONE FOR ME AS MY STREET MOD!
ENGINE: 343 CID V-8 USING A 484 LIFT CRANE CAM AND LIFTERS, STAINLESS STEEL VALVES, 9.5: 1 COMPRESSION RATIO (PREMIUM FUEL OF COURSE) 4BBL HOLLEY CARB WITH ANNULAR DISCHARGE 650 CFM, MALLORY UNILITE DISTRUBUTION, HEI COIL, 2 1/4" DUAL EXHAUST, FLOWMASTERS AND BALANCE PIPE, AND K&N AIR FILTER.
TRANMISSION: BORG WARNER (M-22), FLOOR/CONSOLE, MODERATE RE-WORK FOR CRISP SHIFTS, IRON CASE.
SUSPENTION: FRONT GAS SHOCKS, REAR AIR SHOCKS, POLYURETHAYNE SUPPORTS IN FRONTSWAY BAR.
TIRES: 60 SERIES RADIALS INTERIOR; NOW CLOTH AND VINYL SEATING & PANELS, ELECTRIC TACH, QUARTZ MOVEMENT CLOCK, 1970 AMX INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WITH TACH & 140 SPEEDOMETER, OIL PRESSURE GAUGE & AMP METER BUILT IN ASHTRAY.
BODY: STRIPPED TO BARE METAL, 6 COATS OF URETHANE, HAND HUBBED, (NO CLEAR COAT) LOWER BODY PANELS "SATIN CHROME" WITH CHIP GUARD.
DEDICATED TO MY LATE FATHER WHOSE 1968 AMBASSADOR 4 DOOR WAS THE INSPIRATION AND DONER CAR TO MAKE THIS RESTORATION POSSIBLE.
