Up for auction is a 1960 Austin Healey BT7 3000 MK I with a reasonable reserve and "Buy IT Now" price. It is painted "Old English" white with a blue top and blue interior with white piping on the seats. The carpets are blue. The interior is in very good shape. I know it's history since 2002 when it was sold in an estate sale. Prior to that it was in storage for more than 20 years.
Since then, it has been driven a few thousand miles a year. Two years ago it had about $4000.00 spent on it to allow it to pass state inspection and in the past 12 months it has had a major tuneup incliding points, plugs, new rotor, new condenser, and carborator adjustments. Recently it has had a new heater fascia installed with new knobs, the valve cover replaced and a new gasket installed. The brake and clutch pedals have new pads and a new fan belt installed.
All the gauges work, all the lights work fine including the turn signals. The dark blue top is in excellent shape with a clear back window. The side curtains are complete and new hardware is included for the forward mounting points on the doors.
The engine starts quickly when cold if you pull out the choke control. It runs strong, the oil pressure is the proper 40 psi at normal running temp. The water temp is 180 degrees when warmed up. The car does blow some smoke like most 50 year old cars on start up, but clears up quickly. The transmission is in good shape and the overdrive works properly.
Well, what's wrong with the car? The paint is about 10+ years old and in pretty good shape, but has some scratches and a few dings and one small crack, but with no rust spots evident. Overall,, the paint is in good condition. The body has some bondo in some places but NO BODY RUST, and no frame rust or floor rust other than some surface rust. There is some slight surface rust on the cross members. The car has not been undercoated so it is easy to see in the pictures that rust is almost nonexistant. The rubber molding on both doors needs to be replaced. The Michelin tires have plenty of tread left but I don't know how old they are so they need to be replaced. The brakes work well, but all the fluids should be replaced and I would lube all the suspension points. The adjustable steering column works fine but the steering wheel is covered because it has some cracks (it does not necessarily need to be replaced). The heater blower is not installed, but is included with the car.
Basically what you have is a fine, reasonable priced "DRIVER" which can be driven anywhere and give many years of pleasure. If you wanted to make it a show car it is a good car on which to start. I have owned 12 Healeys over the years and this is one of the best drivers I have had. I will be glad to answer all your questions at my email address hcesails@aol.com or you can email me thru ebay. |
