Offered here for an appreciating new owner is this quite rare 1988 BMW E28 chassis 535is 5 speed sedan!
This beautiful 20+ year-old classic BMW 5 series sedan has been driven an average of less than 7,000 miles per year for a total of 137,600 original miles. Refinished in original "Lachssilber" metallic over black leather interior, this nicely upgraded car features the 182 horsepower 3.5 liter inline six cylinder engine mated to the rare and desireable 5 speed manual transmission, HEATED electric Recaro seats, 17" Style 5 BMW alloy wheels, CD stereo with subwoofer and all the factory amenties like electric windows and sunroof, cruise control, telescoping steering wheel, A/C and anti-lock four wheel disc brakes. I acquired this car from the original doctor owner about three years back, sold it to an associate who then traded it back to me less than a year ago at which time it went to the current owner who must now regrettably let it go due to shoulder surgery. Essentially this is a three-owner car with clear California title, current regsitration and current smog certificate. This is a nice opportunity to own a still very handsome imperfect example of a rust-free classic California BMW sedan with the 5 speed stick.

THE BODY, PAINT & TRIM
The exterior of this car is in very good to excellent rust-free condition throughout. This specimen received a nice original color repaint over a virgin rust-free body about three years ago. It could use a final color sand on the sides to make it even richer. This is one of the best-looking 535s I have seen and overall shows VERY well!. Naturally it has a few imperfections and some curb rash and marred spots on the 17" wheels. [I can also swap for a couple different wheel choices if you desire.]
INSIDE THE CAR
As I hope is articulated in the photos, the interior of this car is in good to very good condition throughout! The carpets, door panles and headliner are all excellent. The dash has a couple of typical heat cracks. All the gauges work well as does the cruise control and other functions like windows, sunroof, etal. The electric seat controls including the factory seat heaters [I like this option] work well. Yes, the driver seat has the usual side bolster tweaked a bit and the passenger seat would benefit from a couple new leather panels though the rest of the interior is quite nice and original owned by non-smokers through its lifetime. The HVAC fan is inop though you still get good heat and some cool air. The high-powered CD with subwoofer is very nice too.
THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE
Driving this striking 535is reminds me why these cars have such a strong following. I think the E28 chassis is the last of the 5ers with that quintescential BMW feel to the steering with the great open and airy upright visibility of the cockpit. The accleration is willing, strong and smooth, the shifting action is crisp and as it should be. The supension has the typically firm yet supple BMW feel to it with excellent, quite predictable, confident and tossable handling. Braking is excellent and strong as well. There is the typical subtle 55ish mph shimmy which would be alleviated with new 750il bushings.
