1975 BMW 2002 Turbo / M10 Turbo Engine

 

This car has been featured in the December 1995 European car magazine, and the November 1998 issue of Turbo and High Tech Performance magazine. It has won numerous car show awards and race events.  Before I purchased this California car, it had undergone a complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration, there are a few nicks here and there but otherwise beautiful.  (I wouldn't call it beautiful as my guess is that it has been physically neglected a bit over the past few years.  There are certainly a few nicks, dings, and spot where the paint is lifting or pealing.  There does not appear to be any significant rust. )  I recently purchase a new motor for this car which has less than 1000 miles on it, still being broken in.   (The original builder of the car did indicated he redid the motor a few years back and apparently the car hasd not been driven much according to the previous owner.)   The Mitsubishi Blue and Porsche Silver paint scheme give the car a longer, lower appearance- yet it still passes for a nicely restored stock 02 and can be used as a daily driver. This is the ultimate driving machine… there is no area of the car's performance that has not been upgraded. 

Engine

 

• 260 + h.p. (?)  VATN Turbocharged, Fuel Injected, Spearco Intercooled M10
• Original block, crank, and head casting ( Not original block.  Prior block threw a rod calling for the new engine which was done by the original builder of the car, Steve Nelson of Top End Performance in California.) 
• 91mm bore, 8.2:1 Compression, JE forged pistons and Total Seal Gapless rings  ( I have documentation which seems to say the current C/R is 8.6.) 
• M3 Evo S14 Forged Con Rods (+9mm length)
• ARP Head Studs
• 46mm Intake and 38mm Exhaust Stainless Valves
  Turbo Port and Polish
• 278 x 282 Turbo camshaft with dual titanium springs
• Knife Edged and Heat Treated crankshaft
• Balanced and blueprinted with KS bearings
• Cometic Viton coated 3 ply stainless steel head Gasket

Cooling and

 

• Electromotive TEC-II management system. Crank trigger pickup. Direct fire Ignition. Fully user programmable via laptop computer and DIN plug on dashboard.
• Aerodyne Turbocharger. 12 psi boost ( Adjustable to 9 -15 psi )
• Intercooler. 2" inlet plumbing. 2.5" outlet plumbing
  Bosch compressor bypass valve.
• TWM 45mm throttle bodies (multiple butterfly) on TWM intake manifold and custom cable linkage.
• (4) Rochester 42 lb. / hr fuel injectors, Bosch Fuel pump, Porsche 930 Turbo adjustable fuel pressure regulator dependent fuel pressure regulators.
• Custom built Airbox , plumbing and vacuum log. Samco plumbing couplers and 90 bend.
• ITG Turbo Air filter.
• 2.5" exhaust, stainless flex coupler and Walker Ultra-Flo Stainless steel 3" muffler and tip.
• Thermostatically controlled 320I Radiator, additional electric fan, custom fan switch
• Most parts powder coated or nickel plated

 

Suspension/Driveline

 

• Fully adjustable Front / Rear Carrera Hyperlite coilovers, fully adjustable RIDS camber plates. Rate and height Adjustable. 160 lb. springs.
• Bilstein Sport strut inserts with custom valving
• Front ultimate strut tower brace with engine torque brace.
• Rear shock tower brace with battery relocation kit.
• 22mm front sway bar and 17mm adjustable rear sway bar.
• Urethane bushings in control arms, strut rods, and sway bars.
• 10.25" front vented 4 piston caliper brake conversion with steel braided brake lines
• 528i Brake master cylinder with modified internals and custom push rod
• Rear disc brake conversion with steel braided brake lines.  (Parking brake has been deleted.) 
• Euro 318IS Getrag 240 five speed. Dual transmission mounts.
• Pro-Grip clutch and Lightened 215mm factory flywheel (11 lbs )
• Short shift kit.
• Non sliding 2 piece telescopic driveshaft with front U-joint and 6 cylinder center support bearing on a custom cross member.
• 3.45:1 Euro limited slip differential.
• 15 x 6 wheels with new 195-50-15 Goodyear FSG-1.

Interior

 

• Pro-Car seats with custom grey upholstery. Custom carpet kit, black perforated headliner.  (Seat hinge covers are cracked.  I recently greased the tracks and they now operate smoothly.)   
• Modified and re-upholstered Behr Air Conditioning center console
• Autometer Tach, Water temp, Oil pressure, Boost Gauges, no speedo
• A/F-30 Air fuel ratio indicator built into original tach location.

• Sunroof wind deflector.  (Deflector is missing.)

I have recently greased the widow mechanisms and replaced the latch grommets which has greatly decreased the rattle coming form the doors.  Carpet and seat upholstery is in good condition.  Also greased and now it has a smooth operating sunroof.  Door panels are uncut and in good condition.  The interior may have been dyed.  Missing sunroof seals.  Dome light lens is cracked.  License plate lights are spider veined.  Left rear tail light lens is missing its' gasket.  No jack or spare tire.  Door brakes have there typical problems.  A post brackets, especially the passenger side one,  have been poorly welded.  Door brakes themselves seem OK but the A pilar mounts need some attention.   Underhood seals are missing along with the hood rubber bumpers that screw in at the front underside of the hood.  Some dash cracks as usual.  Small chip on top edge of passenger window.  Broken fuse box cover.  Also missing are all of the under dash panels.  Has only lap belts in front and they must be some sort of racing belt.  The upside of this car is the mechanicals as indicated above.  She goes like a rocket.  One could probably part out this car for the starting bid a make money but that would be a shame.  The car was done well by the builder and with a little TLC you would have a truly unique vehicle.  Please feel free to ask any and all questions as I, unlike the prior seller, wish to hide nothing.
