FOR STARTERS, THIS CAR HAS THE RATHER HARD TO FIND 425c.i. "465 WILDCAT" ENGINE. BACK IN 1963 IT WAS COMMON FOR BUICK ENGINES TO BE DESIGNATED BY THE TORQUE, (465) AS OPPOSED TO THE CUBIC INCHES(425). THE VAST MAJORITY OF 1963 RIVS ONLY HAD THE SMALLER, LESS POWERFUL 401 c.i. "445" ENGINE. FOR VALUE, AND POWER, THE DIFFERENCE IS SIGNIFICANT.
THE CAR NEEDS SOME DETAILING. IT IS A PROJECT, ALTHOUGH NOT A MAJOR PROJECT...JUST A FEW WEEKENDS FOR ANYONE HANDY. REPLACE THE TRIM, REINSTALL THE SEATS AND INTERIOR PANELS, A HEADLINER, THE CARPET ALREADY PURCHASED AND SOME PAINT TOUCHUPS. ENGINE WISE, PROBABLY REPLACE MOST LINES...SOME ARE 40 YEARS OLD, NEW EXHAUST PIPES, THE CHERRIES ARE OK THOUGH, AND FIND THE LEAK IN THE PS SYSTEM. IT DOES LOSE PS FLUID BUT THE PS SYSTEM IS QUIET AND SHUDDER-FREE AS LONG AS THE PS FLUID IS WATCHED AND OCCASSIONALLY TOPPED OFF. LIKEWISE FOR THE TRANNY FLUID. THE TRANNY SHIFTS FINE BUT THE FLUID WILL GO DOWN A BIT WITH DRIVING. EITHER FIX IT OR PERIODICALLY TOP OFF THE FLUID. GOING ON A 1000 MILE ROAD TRIP...REPAIR IT. JUST CRUISING AROUND ALL SUMMER...GET A COUPLE OF SMALL CONTAINERS OF FLUID AND TOP IT OFF.
IF NOT SOLD BY THE END OF THE MONTH I WILL STOP TRYING TO SELL THE CAR, FINISH THE DETAILING MYSELF AND RAISE THE PRICE TO OVER $8000.

THERE JUST AREN'T MANY NICE 1963 RIVS LEFT. EITHER THEY ARE JUNK, MISSING A LOT OF PARTS YOU WILL NEVER FIND, OR THEY ARE RESTORED AND FAR TOO EXPENSIVE FOR YOU.
AS FOR THE CAR, THE CAR IS ESSENTIALLY COMPLETE. AS PART OF A PAINT JOB I REMOVED ALL THE TRIM AND BUMPERS, DOOR HANDLES, ETC. THIS ALL HAS TO BE PUT BACK ON. IT IS NOT HARD TO DO...JUST TAKES TIME. I EVEN HAVE THE COMPLETE BODY/TRIM MANUALS, AS WELL AS THE ENGINE/DRIVE TRAIN MANUALS. I JUST HAVE NOT HAD THE TIME, OR A PROPER PLACE TO WORK.
THE RED SEATS ARE VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT, DEPENDING ON WHO IS JUDGING THEM. THE HEADLINER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT ALL THE RODS ARE FINE. THE ENGINE RUNS STRONG, DOESN'T BURN OIL AND THE TRANNY SHIFTS VERY SMOOTH. THE CAR IS STRAIGHT, THE GLASS IS GREAT, AND THE POWER WINDOWS WORK GOOD.
THERE IS A SLIGHT TAPPING FROM ONE SIDE WHICH MIGHT BE AN EXHAUST HEADER LEAK, OR A LIFTER. HARD TO TELL. THE ENGINE RUNS SMOOTH AND THE TRANNY SHIFTS FINE. I HAVE INSTALLED A NEW, WATER PUMP, FUEL PUMP, ALTERNATOR, STARTER, BRAKE BOOSTER AND CENTER DRIVE SHAFT GEAR. THE BUMPERS ARE VERY STRAIGHT, BUT FOR SERIOUS SHOWING THEY SHOULD BE REPLATED. THE DOOR PANELS NEED TO BE RECARPETED AND GIVEN SOME DETAILING. THE FLOOR HAD 2 HOLES IN FRONT THAT HAVE BEEN THOROUGHLY REPAIRED AND THE NEW INCLUDED CARPET AND PADDING NEEDS TO BE INSTALLED.
THE EXHAUST SYSTEM FROM THE HEADERS BACK OUGHT TO BE REPLACED. THE SHOCKS & SPRINGS ARE ALRIGHT AND THE CAR TRACKS TRUE ON THE ROAD.
AFTER REMOVING ALL THE TRIM, THE BODY WAS GONE OVER PREPPING ANY DINGS, DENTS, ETC. THE BODY WAS THEN AND IS SURPRISINGLY VOID OF DINGS AND SUCH. AS I HAVE SAID, THERE ARE ONLY A FEW PLACES STILL NEEDING ATTENTION.
PICTURES 1,4,5 AND 6 IN THIS LISTING ARE FROM BEFORE THE NEW PAINT. NUMBER 8 SHOWS THE SMOTTHNESS OF THE NEW PAINT, WHICH ONLY NEEDS A NICE FINISHING(COMPOUNDING) TO DEVELOP A BEAUTIFUL LUSTER. 9.10,12, AND 13 SHOW THE "TROUBLE" SPOTS. ALL-IN-ALL, NOT MUCH "TROUBLE" AT ALL AND NOT MANY OF THEM. I ALSO HAVE ALL THE TRIM PIECES.
IN THE OTHER PICTURES I HAVE I PRETTY MUCH SHOW ALL THE GOOD AND EVEN THE "BAD". THIS IS NOT A $15,000 CAR, NOT EVEN $10,000....SO DO NOT COMPARE WITH $8000 OR $10,000 PAINT JOBS.
THE AREAS NEEDING A LITTLE ATTENTION ARE A FEW PLACES AT THE LEADING EDGE OF THE ROOF,RIGHT WHERE IT MEETS THE WINDSHIELD TRIM,A COUPLE SPOTS OVER THE REAR WHEELS, AND BY THE BOTTOM REAR OF THE QUARTERS. NO ONE NEEDS TO BE LOOKING AT PANEL REPLACEMENTS THOUGH. APPARENTLY THE RUST TREATMENT DIDN'T PROPERLY SET BEFORE THE CAR GOT PAINTED. TRAPPED MOISTURE/RUST IS BUBBLING UP. THE UNDERLYING METAL IS STURDY THOUGH. BEING WHITE, TOUCHUPS SHOULD BE SIMPLE ENOUGH. THE FRAME IS RUSTY, BUT NOT A RUST-OUT.
I HAVE SEEN WORSE CONDITION CARS TRANSFORMED INTO TROPHY WINNERS. IT ALL COMES DOWN TO WHAT THE NEXT OWNER WANTS. QUICKLY TURN THIS INTO A FUN CRUISER OR WITH ENOUGH TIME AND MONEY MAKE IT A SHOW ENTRY. THERE ARE CARS WITH PAINT JOBS THAT ALONE COST $10,000. THE CAR IS FAR MORE COMPLETE THAN VIRTUALLY ANYTHING ELSE I HAVE SEEN ON E-BAY, FOR THIS PRICE, OR SEVERAL OTHER SITES. FOR THE PRICE, WITH NOTHING MISSING, THIS IS THE KIND OF DEAL PEOPLE LOOK FOR. I KNOW ALL THE SCAMS. LEGITIMATE BUYERS SHOULD INCLUDE A PHONE NUMBER. SCAMMERS NEVER DO THIS. WITHOUT A PHONE NUMBER IN THE RESPONSE I NORMALLY JUST DELETE THEM. THE PAINT SHOULD ALSO BE GIVEN A NICE FINAL COMPOUNDING. PLEASE DON'T WASTE MY TIME WITH DISSERTATIONS ABOUT THE PROCESS OF "CORRECTLY" FIXING THE REMAINING TROUBLE SPOTS. IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THEN YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE FOR NOT BUYING THE CAR FOR ONLY $5500.
