This Riviera features the Super Wildcat V8 which is rated at 425ci and 365hp. This engine features 2 4bbl Carter Carbs and a special all chrome, dual snorkel air cleaner. The Gran Sport was an extremely low production performance version of the standard Riviera. Of the 34,586 Rivieras produced in 1965, only 3,354 were ordered with the A9 Gran Sport package...Thats less than 10% of production! It also is well optioned with bucket seats and console, as well as power antenna, air conditioning, Am radio, and tilt wheel. The car was originally from Oklahoma, where it sat garaged for many years by the son of the original owner. The car was purchased about 3 years ago and brought to Arizona where the beautiful restoration was completed. The odometer shows 66,700 which is original and documented as actual by the Arizona title. The exterior on the car is finished in its original color of Midnight Blue which is actually quite rare, with only about 5% of production receiving that color. That equates to less than 200 Gran Sports with this color, and when you brake it down to standard blue interiors, this car is probably one of a kind. The body is in gorgeous condition and is RUST FREE and laser straight. The car went through a restoration about 3 years ago and was repainted in its original color of Code E Midnight Blue Poly at that time. The paint job was done to show quality with all trim removed, doors, hood, trunk, and interior panels removed for paint. The paint was then hand rubbed for a smooth as glass shine with a luster so deep you could fall into it. As I said before this car has always been a western car and I have had it on the lift and thoroughly inspected the car and can not find a spot of rot ANYWHERE. The chrome was also redone and is in fantastic shape. All side trim and is phenomenal as well as the front bumper and grill. All glass is original and all rubber seals and felts were replaced after paint. In case any of you were wondering where the trademark lower rocker trim was, that trim was not standard on '65 Rivieras. It was included with any upgraded interior packages or could be ordered at extra cost. Since this has the standard interior, it was not ordered with this car. The car has a Pro Street look thanks to the gorgeous, high dollar, Colorado Customs 17" polished aluminum wheels. They are wrapped in like new Nitto 265/50/17 tires. This wheel and tire package cost well over $3000, and is well worth it when looking at this Gran Sport. The car will also include the original Buick rally wheels, still mounted on very old Dayton H78-15 Bias Ply tires, which shows that this vehicle was in storage since the late 70's. The standard vinyl interior is mostly original and looks great! The seats are very nice with no rips or tears and no ware at all. All wood veneer is in excellent condition. The carpet was replaced at some time in the past. I would be proud to take it and show it at any local car show or Buick meet. The steering wheel shows no cracks and the center bar look excellent with its chrome Riviera emblem. Dash is very nice with no cracks. All of the power options on the car work including the windows, radio, turn signals, courtesy lights, antenna, horn, clam shells, lights, wipers, and even the clock still works!! The trunk is in very good all original condition with original mat, tire cover and all correct cardboard inserts. All original tools and jack are included and still have original part number stickers attached. The original Goodyear Power Cushion spare is also present and looks like it has never been used, even the rim still has the chalk marks. The trunk pan was inspected and is solid as a rock. Mechanically, this Gran Sport runs great. The 425ci motor runs great and is all correct and original. As I said before the drive train is numbers matching and is coded as an LX, which signifies the 425 dual quad motor ONLY. The motor runs very good and the trans shifts flawlessly. Power steering is effortless with no strange noises, and the power brakes stop the car with ease. The car was recently tuned up with plugs, wires, rotor, cap, and coil. All systems were checked for proper operation and received a clean bill of health. The heater is all connected and blows nice and warm. The A/C was serviced last year and still blows ice cold. Also at that time both carburetors were rebuilt, the transmission was removed and resealed, and the fuel tank was removed, cleaned, and re-installed. The car has brand new 3.5" exhaust all the way from the exhaust manifolds, and end with throaty 40 Series Flowmaster dual mufflers. The underside of the car is completely detailed with black paint and a thin layer of undercoating which looks great. The engine compartment was also fully detailed to show quality standards. During the paint job, the inner fenders were removed and painted beautiful gloss black as well as the radiator support. The correct decals are all in place they are in very good shape. This car would not lose very many points on originality at any Buick show, that's for sure. The car also includes quite a bit of nice Gran Sport related brochures and documents. Included with the car is a mint condition 1965 Buick large sized deluxe dealer brochure, December 1964 Motor Trend test drive article, a beautiful 8" x 14" magazine ad showing an identical Midnight Blue Gran Sport which is suitable for framing. It also includes the original Riviera owners manual and a Buick owners protection booklet. All in all, this is a very nice Buick and surely a very rare commodity being a low mile Gran Sport finished in such a beautiful and rare color combination.
