For Sale is my 1979 El Camino.
I bought this car/truck on Ebay and got ripped off. The ad said rebuilt 350 engine and runs great. WRONG!! It arrived from Texas with a blown transmission I had a rebuilt 350 transmission put in with a torque converter and a new fly wheel cost $2500. (The recently redone 350 motor, turns out to be an early 305 Pontiac).
The ad also stated that the air conditioner works but needs charging, WRONG!!! The compressor was seized and the hoses had holes in them from lying on the pulleys. I took the a/c out and have the parts to make it a non air-conditioned car including a new heater core (different than the a/c unit).
Interior good but needs minor work. WRONG ONE MORE TIME!! Every plastic piece was cracked or broken as were the door panels. All that has been replaced with good used parts painted the correct color. Included is a new carpet that needs installing along with a new headliner also needs installation. Replaced driver side door handles (inner and outer), since they were broken.
Body is in pretty good condition for the mess I got stuck with. I put a new rear bumper including the mounts to replace the bent ones the moron welded in. It is now correct.
The dash is apart and needs finishing. All the parts are here.
I will give the buyer all the spare parts I can dig up from the garage. Bye the way, it has Crager wheels with bald tires and wheel locks with no key. I have been told that it isn't a problem for any tire store.

All glass is good. Non-power windows work fine. New weather stripping on both doors. New radio and speakers included, but not installed. New Plug wires, hoses (and antifreeze), fabricated aluminum valve covers. Body is straight and appears to be rust free. Bed has been sprayed with some coating that the prior owner claimed to be RINO LINING, BUT I AM NOT SURE ABOUT IT (never saw Rino Lining chip off). Will include multiple steering wheels (El Camino and Monte Carlo wheels).
I do have the 4th Crager. They aren't great, but they are useable. Also have new nuts and locks for them (with a key). Also added a new curtain to hide the spare. (There was some rust on the passenger side floor. I made a patch and it seems fine. Not professional, but works). New owner could always get a replacement floor panel, but it isn't needed.
Grill and front trim are all good. Even has the Chevrolet plaque on the grill unique to a 79 (hard to find and cost about 60 bucks if you do find one). Added a fan shroud and air dam as it should be for a V-8. New tail gate seals and cables. Have a replacement steering column (non tilt, column shift) painted and ready for installation. Added an SS hood scoop and sport mirrors. Has tear graphics of the US flag. Added SS decals (it isn't an SS), just looks good. There is an aftermarket Edlebrock intake manifold and carb. There is an exhaust leak, which showed up after the transmission was installed. I think I would get headers for it anyway. Being wheels are locked on; I don't know the condition of the brakes.
Comes with a car cover. Has air shocks in rear. Dale Earnhardt dealership logo on tail gate. |
Sell Price is $2000 firm. (Cost me $2,200 for the truck, $1,500 to have it transported to Chesapeake, $2,500 at the transmission place, and an easy $1,500 -$2,000 for parts. |
