Vehicle Description

Original 1960 Chevrolet Impala with Factory Air!

Updated Photo Gallery Below! The reserve was low for the value of this car but has now been turned off!

This auction is for a classic, original, numbers matching, 1960 Chevrolet Impala with Factory Air Conditioner, and only 41,000 miles.

This car was built in Los Angeles, California and shipped to an Arizona Chevrolet Dealer. I have a copy of the original owners title as well as registration, maintenance, and repair records from first and second owners. I licensed and titled the car in Illinois and the title is clear.

This car was delivered with the original Chevrolet 283 V8, Rochester 2GC 2 Barrel Carburetor, 2 Speed Power Glide Transmission, Power Steering, Standard Brakes, and Factory Air Conditioner! The original paint is listed as Ermine White with Black Inserts and the original interior is listed as Turquoise.

Details:

This is a rustfree, unmolested, original paint and original interior, Arizona survivor car which I personally drove from Arizona to Illinois with no problems accept to add lead additive to the tank on every fuel stop.

This car starts first time every time with no effort or starter drag. Runs and idles well and has plenty of highway horsepower. This car is garage kept and has never seen salt. I only drive it on errands or short cruise weekends but it always turns heads.

The car shows driver use but no abuse. There appears to be small ding repair above the tire on right front fender and the job appears to have been done professionally. It is hard to notice but wanted to mention it. The valances below the rear bumper appear to have had the same treatment.

All stainless and trim is in excellent shape with the following acceptions. The anodized piece behind the left tailights has suffered a shopping cart incident as have the wrap around anodized protector pieces on the two front fenders.

The doors, hood, and trunk lid, open and close with solid feel, no misalignment, and only need a thumb and forefinger to close. All Instruments work as does the original AM Radio. The Clock is accurate twice a day. The Factory Dash Pad is about what you would expect on a 48 year old car with a few cracks and a bit of warpage. The Factory Air Conditioner blows cold and is scheduled for recharge next week.

Maintenance/Updates:

The second owner had the following repairs made: Front end rebuild including Ball Joints, Control Arm Joints, Tierod Ends, etc. New Power Steering Assist Cylinder, Brake Drums turned and New Brake Shoes, New Shocks. The 283 V8 has the classic small front pan seal leak that all 283s have but the engine does not burn or use oil at all. It does have the original cannister oil filter system and I'm told there is a conversion kit for those who wish to "modernize".

As third owner I have had the following repairs made: Professional Carburetor rebuild with choke adjustment. Professionally installed aluminized muffler. Replaced Windlace with NOS. Replacement carpet is listed as "Turquois Tuxedo" and has the original Turquois/Black "Salt and Pepper" appearence. Installed four new Commander G78-14 4 Ply Polyester 2 1/4" Wide Whitesidewall Tires which have less than 50 driving miles since installation.

Interior/Glass:

The original interior seats, door panels, headliner, package shelf, and dashpad, show their age and use but are unmolested in any way. The dash trim is exceptionally good as are the gauge lenses and radio. The interior dome light and night gauge backlights all work as they should. The dome light is missing its lens. I've been looking for a replacement, just haven't located one yet.

The Factory Airconditioner operation is very simple and the Fast Idle knob works as designed for that era. The Fast Idle knob was used while idling with A/C in operation and is a simple pull for incremental increase of idle speed.

The Heater/Air/Fan Controls all work and the Fan Motor has three speeds.

As mentioned earlier the Windlace is NOS and the Carpet is genuine "Turquois Tuxedo" 80/20 loop retro appearance. The seat belts were added by the second owner.

The glass is all original with the exception of the windshield which the second owner replaced due to a rock chip and developing crack.

All window and door handles/door locks/glove box lock/trunk lock work as they should. Glove box contains original Owners Manual.

Exterior:

Not much to say here that has not already been said as the pictures show the condition of the original paint, glass, chrome, stainless, and anodized aluminium trim. All lighting systems including Hi/Low Beams, Turn Signals, Brake and Backup lights and License plate lights work as they should.

The exhaust sytem/piping is extremely solid and the new muffler is quiet. The new Shocks, Brakes, and Front End work  and Factory Air make this one a pleasure to cruise in.
