New interior rear view mirror History The car was sold in 1972 to a middle-aged woman living in New Mexico who drove the car for nearly 30 years (72,000+ odometer miles). She stopped driving due to old age. It was delivered with a 6-cylinder engine, a two speed automatic transmission, steel wheels, hubcaps, and a 10-bolt rear end. It had power steering and an AM radio. During her ownership the car was in numerous " fender bender" accidents causing dents in every corner and denting both doors. Seller is 3rd owner.
The car was entered in the 2008 Southwestern Muscle Car Nationals car show the 1st weekend in April. It won 2nd place for modified Chevelles.
Restoration The exterior was soda blasted to bright metal, primed, sealed, color painted, and clear coated. The underside including frame and belly pan were cleaned, painted, and undercoated. The frame was not removed because everything was in such good shape. One front fender was replaced and the other repaired, inner rear wheel wells were patched, and one partial rear quarter was replaced. Doors were repaired with new skins. A CD will be delivered with the car at sale with over 200 photos taken during restoration showing the original status of the car. The new paint code is " Forest Green" GM " 44 for the 1995 model year. PPG" s number is 4114 for the paint. The paint is PPG color with clear coats.
Mechanical A 454 Chevy big block (out of a Blazer) with 2 bolt mains was installed with a rebuilt 3 speed, turbo 400 transmission and 12 bolt 4.10 posi. The 454 engine has been completely rebuilt, has less than 300 miles on the rebuild, The crank was polished on the standard size rod and crank journals. The block was honed and new freeze plugs installed. Both heads were given a valve job, including all new valve guides, 3 step cuts, surfacing, and new head bolts. A new Comp Cams roller lifter cam was installed with new cam bearings, new Comp Cams roller hydraulic lifters, new pushrods, a new timing chain, and new Comp Cams roller tip rockers (cam info sheet in glove box). The oil pump and oil pump steel drive shaft are new. The rods were reconditioned and balanced with the new 9 to1 pistons including new rings. The Eddlebrock Performer II intake manifold was port-matched to the heads and the tubular Patriot ceramic-coated headers were port-matched to the heads. A Flowmaster dual 3" exhaust system with crossover was installed. A new flex plate was installed and a new 2000-rpm stall torque converter was installed. The engine was painted Chevy Orange and a new oil pan and timing cover were installed. A new water pump and alternator were installed. Chevy " Bow Tie" crinkle finish valve covers and air cleaner were installed. A rebuilt windshield wiper motor and new washer pump were installed. The engine was assembled with ARP 12 point bolts. The points style distributor was replaced with a new polished billet HEI distributor and MSD plug wires.
Suspension The suspension is all new with plastic suspension bushings, 454 springs, Hotchkiss front sway bar, KYB gas pressure shocks, upper ball joints, lower ball joints, and Coy C-5 (17" X 7" front rims and 17" X 8" rear rims) polished rims and new tires. Most brake lines were replaced with either steel lines or flexible Aeroquipt lines. A power brake vacuum booster, new master cylinder, brake proportioning valve, Wilwood 4 wheel disk brakes and emergency brakes were installed. Several broken studs were replaced on the left rear. The suspension was aligned per SS 454 specs. Tie-rod-end rubber boots were replaced.
Odds and Ends New door handles were installed inside and out. New rear view mirrors inside and out were installed. All locks were replaced with trunk, doors, and glove box, keyed the same. All new Autometer gauges were installed in a custom Autometer cluster. Custom adjustable bucket seats were installed with Camel Vinyl and Dark Green Velour color scheme with sewn in " Bow Tie" front and rear. Carpet, armrest pads, headliner, dash pad, and rear shelf were all replaced with new green upholstery. The Autometer electronic MPH display and odometer is programmable for different size tires. Gauges are fuel, volts, mechanical oil pressure, mechanical water temperature, & electronic tach. The original jack and jack handle are included with a spare tire.
Chrome lug nuts were installed on all 4 wheels. A cowl induction hood was installed. SS badging and 454 flags were installed. 454 SS Bow Tie floor mats were added. A new plastic grill was installed. All exterior light lenses and bulbs were replaced. A new gas tank and sender were installed. A new dome light was installed. A Grant 70" s era SS steering wheel was added. Chrome trim around windows was polished and reused. New SS chrome wheel well moldings were installed. New bumpers were installed front and rear. New insulation was installed in the hood. A new aluminum racing radiator was installed. A new battery, new horn relay, new voltage regulator, new Power Master starter, new battery cables, and new starter solenoid were installed. Turn signals and bright headlight indicator are green LEDs. Windshield wiper blades are new.
The car comes with two carburetors. The car was put on a chassis dyno with the 750 CFM Eddlebrock carb installed. A 600 CFM Eddlebrock carb is currently installed for street driving response. Both carbs are new.
