Vehicle Description

1971 chevy 4x4 with 1999 3.9L cummins 4bturbo aftercooled engine. Runs solid and I get 21-23 MPG with the fuel turned up slightly. (turn it down and you might get more). Engine was swapped in last year and I have driven about 3000 miles with it since the swap. If you know about cummins diesels you know the 4bt will go for several hundred thousand miles. Tranny is a 700R4 built by bow tie overdrives. Truck was stripped to bare metal in 2001 and painted with PPG 2stage eurothane(including inside the cab) then color sanded and buffed. Floor is covered with sound deadening and factory rubber mats. Dash bezel replaced with a reproduction unit. Kenwood stereo tape deck w/6X9's, Gun rack. Rubber on doors and windows replaced in 2001. Locking toolbox and bedliner. Heavy duty receiver hitch. 31X10.50 all terrain radials back tires may be good for another year(see pic)front are better. Things installed w/in 20K miles: brake shoes, brake pads, hydraulic brake booster, master cylinder, battery(2006), Shocks(2008), tranny(2001). Truck is part way to a vegetable oil conversion(heat exchanger done doesn't have dual tank)email me for details on this if your interested. Issues: There are no issues that would prevent me from driving on a trip tomorrow. However there are some things that may be a issue for you....... Front driveshaft seal and speedo cable output leak fluid(it will make a mess on your driveway, I just add about 1/2 quart of tranny fluid ever 3-4 tanks and keep a peice of plywood under the truck) Brake light has been coming on for the past 2 years if you really stomp the brakes. It stops fine especially with the new hydraulic brake booster. I don't worry about this. Radiator was patched 3 years ago with epoxy putty. It doesn't leak, but it might start someday. Gas guage is not always accurate/correct. Sometimes you have to wrestle a bit with the transfer case shifter to shift in and out of 4wd. Sometimes this takes almost 1 minute to accomplish. It's not smooth like a newer vehicle. It is a older truck with a big noisy vibrating diesel. I've added alot of sound deadening insulation, so it isn't too bad at highway speed. heater core is bad and I use a electric cab heater. If you live somewhere really cold it won't be enough for you.(new heater cores are cheap) The 700r4 was never meant to run with a low RPM diesel. I've tried my best to adjust the TV cable so it shifts well, but it is not the same as in a gasoline vehicle. You have to back off the gas slightly at 18MPH for the tranny to shift to 2cnd. This is due to the fact that you have to give the diesel alot of throttle for your RPM. Actual mileage is unknown, however I beleive it has only rolled over once. This is a really nice 71 chevy with a economical and very heavy duty diesel engine. I get complements on it several times a week while driving. It is however a 71 model with a unusual engine swap and I cannot guarantee anything. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. I am selling this vehicle because I am moving to Japan and don't want to store it(I am not going to lower the price to dump it before I go as the Army will pay to store the vehicle if I choose). PLEASE READ THE ADD THOROUGHLY AND ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BID!!!!!ALL SALES FINAL!!
