For Sale: 1988 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28 Convertible
I’ve owned this Camaro since September of 2003, bought from a friend who’d had it since 2001 and drove it regularly until November of 2003 when it went into storage in my parents garage for the winter - unfortunately it’s only been out a few times since. I moved to England in January of 2004 and my Mom and Dad agreed to hang onto the car for me, however as I’ve become fairly settled a move back anytime soon is unlikely and as they are now moving as well I’ve been told it’s time to sell the IROC.
It’s in need of a bit of TLC, the pictures that are of poorer quality are from just prior to the car being stored and of July 2004 when it was shown in a local 4th of July show. Since then the only movement it’s seen has been in and out of the garage when my Dad needs to get something from the other side. It’s been under a cover for most of the time in the garage. It runs well and sounds good, however as it’s not been out for some time it probably needs some basic maintenance to get it into proper driving order. It wouldn’t take much though and not much more than that to restore it to its fully glory.
The pictures that are of higher quality are from this past Christmas on my last visit, it was snowing so I decided not to move it out of the garage. I can tell you that over all the paint and body work are in good shape, however as you can see the passenger fender is a bit crumpled towards the bumper - the car was like this when I bought it. In the picture of the car in the show the damage is covered with a small flag and in the picture in the garage it may look worse than it is because the hood is open. The engine is TPI and it runs well, the transmission was new back in December 2004. It also had new tires in September of 2004 and they’ve only seen about 3K-4K miles but have been sitting now for over four years. The top is in OK shape, no major tears or leaks, but could do with replacement and there is a crack in the windshield. Inside the dash is in good shape, as are the seats and door panels, however my Dad and I removed the carpet prior to storage to prevent any dampness from causing rust and it has been thrown out. The driver seat is fixed in one position because the bracket holding it in cracked, it has been firmly secured and would be an easy fix, it‘s been like this since I‘ve owned it. The speedometer stopped working just prior to storage with a mileage of almost 124,000. It has a Kenwood CD player and JBL speakers plus a 10 in Kicker sub in the trunk - all was working back in 2004. The fuel pump was new in 2003, as was the heater core, the radiator was replaced in 2001. The two cooling fans have been wired to switches to ensure the engine runs nice and cool. I’ve got most of the paperwork for things I’ve had done during my course of ownership.
There’s not much else I can say about it. It’s an authentic IROC-Z convertible which is pretty rare and I would love to keep it, but it’s got to go.
