1974 Chrysler Newport Custom, rust free and solid. I am the second owner. I bought the car back in 2001. When the original owner bought the car, he had the car greased from the dealer on all exposed metal underneath (I guess that's how rust-proofing was done back then) and I had it professionally rust-proofed after buying it as well. The car has been garaged most of its life in winter and in rainy weather. I should mention that there is very minor surface rust that shows underneath the car but really nothing to even notice - pretty normal for a car of this age. I am just mentioning it so there are no surprises. The floors, rockers and trunk are solid and have no rust. The indicated mileage on the car is 19,985 miles. The first owner told me that the odometer had stopped working at around 40,000 miles at which point he had it replaced. So I would estimate the total mileage of the car to be roughly 70,000 - 80,000 miles. Engine is a 400 big block with a 2 BBL carburetor - all original and untouched. Transmission is the TorqueFlite A-727 which sounds and shifts beautifully and very smoothly. The interior is all original and in fantastic shape. The roof is all vinyl in great shape - no cracks. The driver's seat shows a very minor crack in the vinyl starting to form - a simple fix really. The radiator has been recently rebuilt and the water pump is new. All heater / radiator hoses are new. The battery is new and the original alternator has been rebuilt. The ignition module changed to new. I also have a bunch of extra ballast resistors I'm throwing in as spares. I have added a true dual exhaust with 2 mufflers and 2 straight pipes - awesome sound. Tires are brand new BF Goodrich Radial T/As. Chrome-plated steel rims... no alloy here. The wipers stopped working last summer but I can hear the electric motor running when I turn on the wipers. The original radio still works and so does the 8-track player as well. It is very rare to find such a car that hasn't been tweaked, modified, chopped-up, hot-rodded, pimped-up or anything like that. What you see is what you get. An awesome summer cruiser that drives like a dream.
