| Up for auction is a beautiful, clean 1958 (50th year!) Dodge Coronet Lancer 4-dr. hardtop. As you will read below, this car has been has been completely restored, short of a frame-off restoration. It was a long, slow process for me. By purchasing this car, you can save yourself a lot of time and money in the long run...it is ready to go! Only a couple minor repairs remain, as you will note in the write-up. I have set the reserve at what I consider a fair price and believe you still stand to get a bargain. You will get a lot of attention driving this car! For those not familiar with the term, hardtop refers to no pillars between the front and rear windows, so when you roll down the windows, it’s a clean sweep from front to rear! The engine, recently completely dismantled and restored, with less than 50 miles on it, is an 8 cylinder, 325 cu. in., 252 hp Red Ram. The car has a current Virginia inspection. In case you’re wondering about the wedding photos, I’ve thought for a long time this car would make a great wedding limo. My curiosity finally got the best of me, so the car was decorated. Maybe it will give some of you an idea, with spring and summer weddings coming up. It does look nice, don’t you agree? – and the four doors are ideal for chauffeuring! I purchased this Swept-Wing Dodge locally in October, 1994. I had admired the late ‘50’s Chrysler Corp. cars since I was a kid and hoped to own one some day. Soon after purchase, I heard at a car show that there were only about 600 ’58 Dodges registered in the country, about 12/state, and later read only 7 percent were sold with factory a/c. At the time of purchase, the exterior had been repainted with correct colors for 1958 and the interior completely restored with correct nylon and vinyl upholstery, headliner, carpet and furnishings. The color of the car had been changed from an overall mint green to the blue and white, both inside and out, but it is a well done, thorough job. Originally a Tennessee car, the odometer shows 97,970 miles, which I believe to be original, but, as stated above, there are less than 50 miles on the recently restored engine. I have driven the car only locally, less than 3,000 miles, since purchasing it. The car has been kept in a dry, ventilated, underground garage since I’ve owned it. Soon after purchase, I had a lot of work done at White Post Restorations in Virginia, including: six seat belts installed, correct for that year, and by coincidence, a matching light blue, a rear window brake light installed, after hearing from a fellow enthusiast at a car show that his vehicle had been rear-ended due to small tail lights, several bumper pieces rechromed and trim pieces polished, complete dismantling and restoration of the push-button automatic transmission, complete dismantling and restoration of the drive shaft, so the power steering is good and tight, complete restoration of the factory a/c – I recently replaced hoses, but am told the compressor gasket has dried out from lack of use since restoration and needs replacement, NOS clock installed in the dash – currently not working since the generator gave out recently and had to be replaced (the a/c and clock are the only items I know of needing any work), new weather stripping installed, new brake master cylinder and power booster installed, new exhaust, NOS rear brake and tail light lenses installed, NOS parking light lenses installed, NOS window washer chrome nozzle installed on hood, NOS hood ornaments installed. More recently, the radiator was overhauled – no leaks since. The following lists the major work done in the last 6-8 months. The car has been driven around the block to keep it going, but less than 50 miles since the work: Complete engine restoration – it’s like brand new 5 new Coker wide white wall radial tires – this includes the spare in the trunk – smooth driving Replacement rebuilt generator and new regulator Tune up, new points, spark plugs, oil change, new filter New battery New rear leaf springs, bushings Brakes checked and repaired The original am radio works. Sometimes I’ve plugged into the cigarette lighter with a boom box, so FM and CD’s can be played for long periods. Two covers will be included with the car, an original shop manual and miscellaneous parts salvaged when work was done. Please call (703) 525-3535 for more information, or email if you have any questions. I have tried to describe this Dodge to the best of my ability. Mechanics who have worked on the car have told me it is a good, solid car. There are a few minor dings (no dents) that you have to look for to find, but overall the car is in very good condition. By placing a bid, the Bidder acknowledges that this vehicle is being sold in an as-is condition, with no warranties expressed or implied, and will not demand or expect equipment, supplies, labor, services or rebate, except those items stated to be included in the description. Only serious bidders, please. Buyer pays all shipping costs. Owner will be glad to assist with vehicle pickup, if shipped, and to show the car to anyone who is in the area during the bidding period. Owner reserves the right to end the auction early, as the car is being advertised locally. Payment method: 10% of total winning bid is due within 3 business days of the end of the auction, with remainder due within the 10 calendar days following the end of the auction. After complete payment is received, and time has been allowed for checks to clear, (7-10 business days), the title will be forwarded to the Buyer, certified mail.
