The Dodge Charger first roared onto the scene and into the hearts of performance loving Americans in early 1964, turning record setting quarter mile times in Ramcharger form at speeds in excess of 135 miles per hour, an unheard feat in the early days of American Muscle. The marque further gained ground with the introduction of the Race Ready Hemi thereby creating the unique & frighteningly fast and wild Hemicharger… which, even by modern day standards is one of the most powerful of any breed of musclecar and is sought after by collectors the world over with prices well into the six figures.
The general public came to know the Charger as not only one of the finest declarative examples of American Design & Engineering through it’s cockpit like interior and fierce time and again race winning technology, but also through its trademark roar and powerful yet, sinuous lines… the likes of which have been a mainstay in American Pop Culture and made famous and infamous in Classic Movies such as “Bullitt” with Steve McQueen In what is widely acclaimed as The Most Famous and Often Imitated Car Chase Scene in American Movie history. In this scene, McQueen is tailed at increasingly high speeds through the ramp-like streets of San Francisco by none other than…a Triple Black Dodge Charger. We can also see Dennis Hopper in David Lynch’s famed psychodrama & Cult Classic “Blue Velvet” racing menacingly along the dimly lit back streets of a quiet town, unaware of the danger which lurks among the dark and mysterious night time landscape in what is Anytown, USA. The Dodge Charger was also the choice of Director Quentin Tarantino for the release of the new Cult Classic “Deathproof” starring Kurt Russell as a charming, yet sinister self proclaimed stuntman who turns up on a clear summer night in a small town bar to offer a ride to an unsuspecting hitchhiker. And of course last but not least, what Red Blooded American Boy , never wanted to race through the streets of his hometown in the car that started a racing revolution, created a place in the hearts of Americans and bore the insignia…“O1”. This is the banner and heritage of The Dodge Charger.
