Original and hard to find 1931 Chevrolet Idependence 1 1/2 Ton dual wheel pickup. This truck was originally purchased new in 1931 and used by Tiffany Farm of Lyme Connecticut until it was sold in the 1960's. During the 1970's the owner, who was a highly skilled carpenter and craftsman along the CT shoreline, made the Oak bed that is currently on the truck. It is of fantastic quality and perfect proportion. The truck was originally sold by Chevrolet in 1931 without a bed as most, if not all were. It was up the owner to make one himself or have one custom coachbuilt. In 1931 the Chevy was a heavier duty truck than the Model A pickup, along with a more powerful overhead valve engine. Very few were made though in comparrison, making this a very difficult truck to find. The original 194ci straight 6cyl engine was rebuilt and bored .030 over and has VERY few miles on it. It runs beautiful and is reliable. Correct carb, radiator, air cleaner, exhaust manifold, distributer and 6V generator. Transmission is the original 4spd which shifts great. First gear is so low that it is not used in regular driving conditions. This truck will go anywhere and tow anything and is a blast to drive. Massive original rear end, and 6 period correct reproduction Denman bias tires on original wheels. The body has a few dings and traces of rust along the bottom edges, and the paint is old and cracked, but it gives the truck so much character that it would be a shame to change it. If one wanted, the body and fenders could use a little work and a re-paint to make it show quality, but it really looks great as is. Interior feautures original dash and gauges, push-button start on the floor, and custom made seat box. Frame is in great condition, along with the rest of the original suspension. Correct original mechanical brakes work and stop very well. You won't find a nicer looking and dependable period truck anywhere else. Currently registered and insured in Connecticut. Buyer arranges shipping, I know some good contacts for buyers in CT. Feel free to ask any questions. Truck is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early. It has been registered since at least 1960 (I have the registration) as a 1931, so apparently at some point in time the information was changed. |
