This stunning 1985 Lincoln Mark VII Bill Blass edition is positively magnificent, with an incredibly low 33,412 original miles. I purchased the car in 2005, and am only the second owner. The original owner is apparently some wealthy gentleman, living in Pennsylvania, and I am told he has done this several times before; buying a classic car, enjoying it ala Sunday driving, then selling and repeating the practice.
At the time of my purchase, I owned a white haired dog whose mission in life was to manufacture dog hair. I was on the lookout for a “hair free” second car for the black pinstripe suits needed in my profession, and so acquired this gem. Boy, did the neighbors ever turn out to “Ooh” and “Aah” when I brought it home. It had a little over 29,000 miles when I purchased it, and my heart frankly broke when the odometer rolled over 30,000.
My hairy pet has since died, and so I no longer require such a dedicated form of transportation. With a little detailing, this beauty could easily sit on a dealer’s showroom floor. Suede leather seats are flawless, both front and rear. The interior is like new, and may have been re-done by the original owner. There is a minor rub on the drivers door panel near the door lock (pictured), and some minor cracking in the center leather console. Everything else is flawless.
Tires are Bridgestone Turzana LS-Ts, and have most of their tread remaining. The spare is brand new. Carpet is like new, both in the passenger compartment and trunk. Original paint has one or two minor dings, emphasis on the word minor; shines up to a brilliant sheen. The ride is on a cushion of air, and is like floating down the road.
Absolutely no rust anywhere. Bumpers gleam, as do the extraordinary chrome wire wheels. I believe that these are not factory original, and may have been added by the first owner. I have converted the A/C system to the more ecologically friendly system.
Let me tell what I know to be issues: The overhead compass does not read accurately, but for me, it was an unnecessary feature, and so I never looked into having it corrected. The passenger side rear clothes hanger is missing the brown leatherette cover. Again, I never looked into finding a replacement.
The parking break sticks, but I usually don’t use it. The moon roof could probably use a new gasket; the seal is water tight, but there is the sound of a slight air leak. The low tone horn of the duel horns needs to be replaced. I priced them, and found a site which sells them for under $20.00. Lastly, the front Bill Blass mats are missing, but can be found on the web. That’s it, all minor details to be sure.
Another Mark VII, same year and exactly like this, with 57,221,000 miles, recently sold on eBay, Item No. 110240425596, for $4,900.00. It did not have the stunning suede seats this one has, and its seats were heavily worn by comparison, not nearly in this immaculate condition. This vehicle is far superior to that car in every respect.
I believe that this car has been smoke free throughout. I know it has been while I’ve owned it, and I see no evidence that the lighters or ashtrays have been used. On the leading edge of technology in 1985, and fully equipped as described herein. Original owner’s manuals included.
This car will be perfect to show off at your classic car club, or to draw in clients to a dealership showroom floor. I have used it for business and occasional special social engagements when a classic ride was the order of the day or evening. If you wanted one of these brand new twenty-three years ago and missed out, this is absolutely the next best thing. I’ll probably kick myself afterward after the sale, but it feels like time to pass it on. My reserve is far less than what I paid for it (I felt like I stole it), and far less than my buy-it-now price. Please feel free to ask questions. Best to all of you.
