Classic 1972 Mercedes 280 SE 4.5L, Very low mileage on this much-loved car!
Body Style: 4-Door Sedan Ext. Color: Green Int. Color: Tan Vinyl Transmission: Automatic This luxury car is a joy to drive: stylish, well-maintained wood and vinyl interior, easy acceleration, and an incredibly smooth ride. Former owner installed a Sony CD player in the glovebox, 2 speakers in the back and left the original one (not hooked up) to maintain the original look.
Other than that, we've preserved the vintage appeal: Original grill; factory AM/FM radio, hub caps, woodwork, seats, and paneling. The car's first owners kept it in a garage and rarely drove it. We purchased it from the 3nd owner, who had it for 5 years. We have service records dating back to 1972, and have relied on the specialists to care for it since we purchased it in 2005.
Rare White steering wheel was specially ordered at the factory in Germany in 1972 "lady style". All interior fixtures and details--woodwork, seat coverings, dashboard, etc.--original and some in exceptional condition. There is no rust on this well preserved car. This is the original paint and in great condition. We are truly sad to let this car go, but need a hatchback for hauling around kids and all their gear!
Over the last 3 years we have maintained it regularly (oil changes etc.) I paid 350$ to fix a hose on the left front break. We replaced the winshild whiper motor and the left front side motor for the side windshiled. I drive this car everyday to & from work which is about 5 miles but it drives great on the highway every few Saturdays. Full disclosure - (Things that could use fixing but not a must) Previous owner had told us that a small rock hit the front windshield and scared it then jumped on the roof and left a small scratch. The owner did not fix the windshield and we have been driving it like this for the last 3 years. He started fixing the paint on the roof and had the pre-painting job done. It has a grey patch of color size A4 on the roof. I've checked and 600$ would get you a new top painted completly. I will have pictures by Monday to demonstrate what is there. I feed it oil every 3 fillings, the previous owner told me he has been doing so and it is cheaper then to replace a part (not sure which one he was refering to). 1 green hub cup is missing however I have a spare BLUE one in the back trunk. It is about time to get new tiers on this baby. They are still good but getting there .. AC doesn't work - I mean it turns on motor works throws air but not cold air. I never looked into adding gas or anything because Washington almost doesn't get hot. Heater - All knobes are in place they move. I have never figured out how to operate them instead I install a small heater fan in the car (that can be easealiy removed). It has cruise control knob - they are disconnected - previous owner said it was an easy fix - I never bothered to check this. I will be happy to answer any questions or send more pictures in email. Let me know which part you want pictures of. Mechanically the car is great, starts right up and runs very smooth and solid. Engin runs well, smokes a little (there is no emmision test in Washington...) does not make strange noises. The transmission is automatic and shifts very smooth in all gears and pulls strong. The car drives straight and does not pull in any direction. Very dependable car that needs a good home.
