Hello e-Bay! My name is Luke; I have both bought and sold vehicles on e-Bay...
Goals with this and ALL of my auctions:
1) Describe this vehicle accurately, so everyone can make an informed decision.
2) Retain my 100% positive feedback rating, MOST of which is from sales.
3) Put some money in the bank!
This car has been in my possession for three short years. I first saw this beautiful and rare 6.9 on Friday, July 15, 2005. I bought the car the following Monday. While in my possession I have only driven it during the summer or on dry days, garaging it otherwise.
When I bought this car I was finishing my schooling at Iowa State University. The only reason I mention this is that the car needs a few repairs, and until now I have not had the funds available to do so. I also do not want anyone to think that I purposefully neglected the minor issues that the car has now. My first car was a beautiful 1974 280C. I have owned a total of nine Mercedes. I love and respect these cars.
I am not selling this car to keep the lights on. I have a clean 500SEC, as well as other toys. I am running low on garage space, and really just want to put some money in the bank.
What I can tell you about this car:
I have researched the car to the best of my abilities, and as we all know, there are few if any records of AMG modified 6.9’s. This goes for those that were modified as a new vehicle, or modified after the fact. Because of the limited availability of AMG records I cannot even begin to tell you how RARE this car is! Normally equipped 6.9’s are rare, but you simply DO NOT see any cars like this for sale!!! E-mail this page to any and all Mercedes enthusiasts you know! They will confirm that you may NEVER SEE A CAR LIKE THIS ON E-BAY AGAIN! I have watched e-Bay regularly the entire time I have owned this 6.9, looking for ANYTHING that is VINTAGE AMG… Anything AMG related that is pre-80’s is nearly non-existent, or not for sale.
This vehicle was sold new at Mercedes Benz of Beverly Hills as a normally equipped, normally aspirated 6.9, black in color. I believe the AMG equipment was installed at this dealer, possibly before the original owner took delivery.
Running an Autocheck report shows the car spent the first part of its life in California and then was registered in Hollywood, Florida. It came to the Midwest later in life. This 6.9 has no accident history. The mileage on the report seems consistent with the mileage on the odometer. The speedometer is a 107 part #, which probably replaced the 85 mph speedometer that came on the 1979 6.9 American imports. I do not represent the mileage as actual, although it could be close.
Body:
The body is VERY clean. The paint is deep and shiny, it is not original. Unfortunately the paint has some imperfections partially due to age. The window frame on the driver’s door is creased but could be repaired, the door and window operate perfectly. The chrome and trim is all present, in good shape, and will look new with a light polish.
AMG body pieces:
AMG side skirts and a rear apron, I have been told these pieces alone were several thousand dollars!
Seats:
This car features Recaro seats, with matching back seat and speakers in all four head rests! The front seats are POWER AND HEATED!!! How many 6.9’s can have that said about them??? The rear seat is very soft, the springs feel wore. The condition of the seats would indicate the AMG conversion was done VERY early in life of the car, if not before the original owner took delivery. As mentioned, all four headrests have two speakers in each; these were not hooked up when I purchased the car. I have not attempted to hook them up, partially because I do not know what impedance they are. This could be figured out with an ohmmeter, but I have not taken the time to do this. The speaker wires are present with plenty of length and should be easy to wire up. The car had an aftermarket Alpine CD player when I bought it, which I replaced with a Blaupunkt Monte Carlo CD/MP3 player, with remote.
Steering Wheel:
AMG steering wheel with “Silberpfile” center emblem, German for silver arrow. This is the steering wheel used on AMG’s of this vintage.
Wheels:
BBS three piece, with 4 BRAND NEW Riken Raptor 225/50 R16's, less than 100 miles. (This a Michelin private brand) The BBS wheels alone are a VERY desirable wheel and were used on early AMG’s as an alternative to the Penta’s. These are the BBS RS model wheels. Do an eBay search & you will see that these are VERY EXPENSIVE rims. I think they would benefit from have the center (gold) portion powder-coated black. The wheels are in GREAT shape!
Engine:
Stock 6.9 liter, as far as I know. The engine runs strong and does not smoke or use oil. Although I have not used it as daily driver, the car is very dependable and has never failed to start. I have replaced the fan clutch and had the radiator rebuilt since buying it, it runs cool even on the hottest days. When the engine is at operating temperature it is necessary to give it just a little gas when starting, other than that the car RUNS GREAT. After seeing the idea online, I replaced the factory air box with one from a 560SEL. I also installed a K&N filter. The original air box is included in the sale and will bolt right back on if you choose to do so.
Transmission:
Shifts VERY smoothly in all gears, just as it should.
Suspension:
As with many 6.9’s the suspension needs a little attention, it settles when sitting for several days. My pictures show the car at various heights, this was intentional.
Other:All of the lights, windows, wipers, and power locks are functional. Even the power antennae works. The electrical system is in GREAT shape with NO major splicing or cutting from what I have seen. The car has never blown a fuse the entire time I have owned it.
The sunroof works if assisted but needs a greasing.
The cruise does not work, I had the cruise control amplifier rebuilt by a company in Colorado; then realized it was actually my cruise control actuator. With no more than I drive this car I have not taken the time to fix it. Power steering pump leaks, but has not been ran dry.
I have a nice collection of literature for this car, which is included in the sale.
I am including a dash cover which has not been installed.
A partial tool kit is also included, as well as a first aid kit.
Registration is current and I have the free and clear Iowa title in my name.
I would be happy to discuss any details over the phone. However, due to my job I would prefer that serious buyers send me an email with their phone number and I will give you a call as soon as possible, or I will just respond by email if that is sufficient.
Test drives and in person inspections are welcomed.
Buyers with a feedback score of less than ten or ANY negative feedback must email me before bidding. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of your bid… Please give me time to respond before bidding. Hitting send on your email does not automatically mean you can then bid.
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS MUST CHECK ANY AND ALL REGULATIONS REGARDING THE IMPORT OF THIS YEAR AND TYPE OF VEHICLE AS PER YOUR SPECIFIC COUNTRY.
I am NOT responsible for any errors regarding the import process and will not provide input on this matter, simply because I would not want to provide any incorrect info. It is also the responsibility of the buyer to know what shipping prices are- before bidding. As stated, I will help in any way I can, but once I sign the inspection paper and the car leaves on the transport I will not see it again.
PLEASE KNOW WHAT SHIPPING CONDITIONS AND PRICES ARE BEFORE PLACING YOUR BID.
BY BIDDING YOU ARE ENTERING INTO A LEGALLY BINDING CONRACT.
DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU INTEND TO BUY.
Non-refundable $1,000.00 PayPal deposit due within 24 hrs of auction close. Balance must be bank wire transfer or cash in person within seven days of auction end. Failure to meet either of these criteria will result in negative feedback being left. I will gladly let the car sit in my garage until shipping arrangements can be made. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, but I will assist in any way I can. I do not have shipping blocks but will install some prior to shipping if mailed to me. Vehicle is sold as is. Not responsible for damage due to shipping.
If this does not meet its modest reserve, there will be no second chance offers.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
Thank you.
