Full restoration
Factory Mark II car
Matching numbers
Extensive receipts
Up for bids is this 1952 MGTD Mark II in super condition. Just under 30,000 MGTD's were made from 1949 through 1953. Of those, 1,710 were Mark II's. This car had a comprehensive nut and bolt restoration performed in the 90s and remains in excellent condtion. Receipts totalling over $20,000 chronicle the extensive mechanical and cosmetic work undertaken on this very nice TD. I also have some very old receipts that date back to 1965 when the car resided in Utah. From there the car was sold to a gentleman in Santa Ana, California. In 2001 the car was brought to Oregon.

Finished in the classic color of Woodland Green (BRG), the car presents extremely well. The paint has very nice gloss and appearance, application was first rate with no runs, fisheyes or orange peel. The body panels are straight and smooth with nice lines. The car was taken completely apart and stripped down to bare metal, every nut and bolt is new. The car has no dents or dings, and of course no rust problems anywhere. All trim has been rechromed. All lights and signals operate correctly. The car has new weatherstripping throughout. All of the wood framing on the car has been refurbished and is in great shape.
Nice fit and finish throughout. Click the photos for a larger view.
A new canvas soft top from Moss came with the car, it had never been installed so I just had it fitted by Guy's Interior Restorations here in Portland, it's in as-new condition. The car also has a full tonneau cover in excellent shape.
Interior:
The interior is just as nice as the rest of the car. The seats have been redone in leather and are like new . The carpet is likewise mint, showing no wear. All gauges, controls, and indicators are functioning except for the clock. The steering wheel is in excellent condition with no cracks. The rear view mirror is being re-silvered and will be installed before auction end.
The door panels are unmarked and excellent, the doors hang nicely with no wobble. The car's number plate shows the TD/ 'C' designation correct for a Mark II car. The next photos shows the stack of receipts, over an inch thick, they span 43 years and 3 owners. Also included is a nice reproduction owner's manual.
Mechanical: This TD starts easily and runs great. The Mark II's were characterized by having larger valves, increased compression ratio, dual fuel pumps, larger carburetors, and enhanced suspension components. That's not to say that this car is fast but it will get out of its own way. This car is a lot of fun to drive and is pretty well behaved on the road. Due to its low seating position, even 35 mph feels pretty fast.
The undercarriage is solid and rust free, I don't think this car has been in the rain since being restored.
