1968 Chevrolet Camaro, 454 BB motor, Turbo 400 trans, 10 bolt rear with 3.73 gears.
This car left the factory as a 4 speed car and also claimed to have been an original big block car but as you know in 1968 unless you actually have the original motor this is impossible to prove! What it has for driveline now is a late 70,s 454 big block mated to a turbo 400 going back to the original 10 bolt rear with 3.73 gears in. The motor is fairly mild, nice lope at idle but nothing radical, usual Edelbrock intake, Holley 650 Street Avenger carb, full MSD ignition headers etc.Big ally radiator up front AND an electric fan as well as the engine driven fan ensure this motor never gets hot! Starts first crank and runs out very well. Trans shifts very crisply, feels like it may have a shift kit in it but no crazy stall speed convertor that I can feel! Now as I mentioned earlier it was an original 4 speed car and what do you think is in the trunk? EVERY single item that was removed when it was converted to an automatic! Thats right EVERYTHING! Trans, bellhousing, clutchplates, crossmember, the COMPLETE Muncie shifter and linkage, original 4 speed console and even the driveshaft! So if you wanted to go back to manual, it should be a breeze! When was the last time you saw a converted Manual car that included ALL of the original parts even all the nuts, bolts etc!. Onto the body, this I would rate as a 9 out of 10 easily! I have yet to see a straighter Camaro body than this one. I can see no sign of a ripple, wave, dent or ding anywhere and zero rust either on top or underneath! The paint has that mile deep look to it and was certainly a pro paint job! There are no runs, specks or orange peel anywhere, this is what I would call a zero footer...lol! The interior is about an 8 out of 10 and that is only because the headliner was not fitted as I would have liked at the rear and it does have a couple of sags that annoy me! Being fussy but also trying to be honest. The dashpad is new, carpet is new, all gauges and electrics work bar the horn. This is a non power steering and none power brake car but I was very surprised how easy it is to steer and the brakes work surprisingly well for manual drums all round. Exhaust is fairly new all the way through, wheels and tires are likewise nearly new and classic drag style centerline in appropriate big and little look. What would I do with this car if I was to keep it longer? Very short list! Not a big fan of the big and little look myself, I would ditch the Centerline and fit classic Cragars or Torq-Thrusts in 15x8 and have done with that, replace the B&M shifter with a gennie shifter in the original console and reroute the exhaust at the rear to exit where it should on a Camaro and not straight out the back. Thats it but all of that is just personal preference and none of it essential! I encourage anybody to view this car and ask as many questions as you need to but I think the pix in this case do speak for themselves! As usual this is an auction to own and I only want to list it once! This is also going to be a no reserve auction so think twice before you bid as you could own it! There will be a $500 deposit by Paypal within 48 hours of auction end and full payment by cash in person or a major cashiers check within 7 days of auction end! Shipping is the full responsibility of the winning bidder. Thanks and good luck!
