Beautiful 1949 Packard Super Deluxe 8 Victoria
1949 was the 50th Anniversary for Packard
Fresh paint job matching the original color, original paint was stripped down to bare metal, all dings and dents were repaired and then repainted in July 2009
Having emerged debt-free from its wartime service building Rolls-Royce Merlin airplane engines and powerplants for other military equipment, Packard returned to the business of building automobiles.
Although its focus on mid-market cars carried over from the pre-war /Depression era, Packard still produced the upscale Super Eight, a particularly rare version of which is offered here in this handsome and elegant 1949 Victoria Convertible.
While the Super 8 Deluxe shared most of the same trim with the Custom models, it is distinguished in part by its full-length chrome body side trim, eggcrate grilles that suggest a Tucker era influence, bullet-style bumper guards and upper beltline chrome trim.
Only 671 such cars rolled off the Packard assembly line, even fewer as lavishly equipped as this Arizona Beige example.
A refurbished Pennsylvania car, it is powered by the classic smooth-running 327 Packard straight-8 rated at 150 hp, with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
Dual outside sideview mirrors, Cormorant hood ornament combine with the body-color rear fender skirts and wide Whitewalls to great period effect.
The interior presents very well, with attractive Tan vinyl upholstery on the seats and original door panels, and quality new carpets. There are ample extras, including hydraulic power controls for the windows, the Dark Brown convertible top, and the front seat,
Factory heater and defroster, in-dash clock and a Packard 8-tube radio.
This charming refurbished post-war gem is being offered to the public for the first time from my private Packard collection.
