About this car specifically:
This 911 SC is surprisingly clean for it's age, thanks in part to the lower milage and new paint (done last year). The paint is in excellent condition, only has two small chips on the front bumper, otherwise perfect. Has the "tea tray" turbo tail. Shifts easily, clutch is strong (it's a 5 speed). Interior is fairly clean, would characterize as a 7 of 10. Few cracks in the dash material due to the sun, but carpet is in good shape, and this had two new replacement front seats put in last year (new old stock). Car has a very tight suspension and incredible brakes. Targa top was recovered by previous owner. Back seats are in great shape, look like they haven't been used. Things that need to be fixed are seals for the targa top (removed with paint job), heater motor (200 bucks via the web), and an oil leak (haven't diagnosed yet, but described as easily fixable and common for the SC). Tires are 75%. Many additional spare replacement parts included with car. New cold start regulator and cold start valve. Car tuned up this winter to include cap rotor, plugs, clutch cable, clutch helper spring. Have additional clutch pedal rebuild kit included free with car. No major issues, no rust, which is impressive for a car of this vintage. Has not seen snow, always garaged, and could easily be a daily driver. I would feel very confident driving this car long disantaces if needed. Big head turner, I get a lot of comments and looks. People are blown away when I tell them it's a 78, it looks much newer to most.
About the 1978 911 SC:
The 1978 911 SC is a rear engine, rear wheel drive sports car. The SC was first produced in 1978, and remained in production until 1983. It was a combination of the previous 911S and the 911 Carerra, the combination became SC (Super Carrera). The 1978 was the first to have the 3.0L engine standard, an engine previously only used for the turbo variant. 0-60 times clocked in at 6.3 seconds, however Porsche has a reputation for being notoriously conservative on published times. The car is amazingly light, weighing in at only 2,558 pounds. The targa top offers top down driving, while maintaining a suprisingly rigid body supporting the incredible handling the 911 is known for.
Car and Driver's review, March 1978:
"the new 911SC is faithful to tradition. It is the fastest normally aspirated Porsche, 0-60, that we have ever driven.....While all this sturm und drang is slowly being fed through your mental computer, you must also come to grips with the information that it gets 15 miles per gallon in the EPA city cycle and 27 in the highway test. It is thus terribly fast and suprisingly economical. A remarkable blending of opposing vitures."
