| NEW UPDATE: First of all I want to say thanks for all of the interest, suggestions and questions. As a result I added more photos to answer some of the more common questions. To answer some questions directly, yes, this is the actual car that Interscope and Panasonic sponsored for Danny Ongais to drive at the 1980 Indy race, its not a kit or a copy! Yes, there are several unique items of memorabilia that go with the car, including some of the more important pieces pictured (poster, original Autoweek, etc photos I just added). The poster itself was very highly valued by a noted Porsche memorabilia collector in a recent offer, but it only goes with the car! Yes, the car is complete and ready for some hardy soul to attempt to drive (I'd recommend a rather extensive systems check before trying that!), or to add to any significant static collection of Porsche or Indy cars. Note the detailed photos showing the Porsche 936 based Turbo engine, the suspension components, wheels, and even the detailed photo showing an actual stamp applied to the wheels after they were OK'd to use at Indy, the stamp is still there and very legible. This is an example of the condition of this car, it really is a time warp car sure to be the centerpiece of any collection. You can join in one of the most significant moments of Indy history by owning this car, don't miss out! This car represents the first attempt to win Indy in a Porsche, breaking lap records at Ontario (similar to Indianapolis) in preparation for the 1980 race. Sponsored by Interscope and Panasonic, driven by Danny Ongais, this car was poised to win the race until a late call for the car's withdrawal from other competitors led to a rules change, making the car uncompetitive. The chassis was designed by Parnelli and the engine derived from the turbocharged 936 engine that had just won LeMans for Porsche. This car has been seen recently at the Porsche Rennsport Reunion and the Amelia Island Concours. The condition is amazing, the original hand painted lettering is a bit faded from the years after the try at Indy, but mechanically and cosmetically the car is in a wonderfully preserved state. Everything turns, moves and works. This car and the Indy effort has been well documented in many publications and books. There are many spares with this car including wheels, suspension, engine and transmission parts. If you are serious about this car I would suggest bringing a camera and making your own notes about the authenticity, value and condition of the spare parts. We cannot verify, authenticate or comment on the spares in terms of their viability for use. This car is truly of historic value, both to the Indy collector and the Porsche collector. There is a great deal of memorabilia that goes with the car, including an original poster that was never seen my the public due to the late withdrawal of the entry. The poster was to be the original for a production run that never happened, and is typical of the type of very rare memorabilia that belongs with the car.You are welcome to view other information on this special racing car, and many others, at the http://www.synergyracing.com website. You are also welcome to view the car and determine the condition for yourself. Due to the expected high value of this car, it is highly recommended that you inspect this vehicle before making a serious bid. This is all the information and photos available at this time, if you are a serious buyer and request any information that is missing, your request will of course be granted, but please be serious and not just curious... |
