By now many people are aware of how significant vintage Porsches are in the world of classic cars. Values are rising and good cars are very difficult to find. Out of all the pre-1973 Porsche cars the 912 is the greatest bang for the buck. The Porsche 912 is the exact same car as the 911 but with a lighter, more fuel efficient (up to 28mpg) engine borrowed from the very reliable 356SC. These cars were designed & built in an era where the past was meeting the future. Old world hand built craftsmanship & quality meeting up with newer technology. If you are thinking the 912 is somehow an inferior car to the 911 then you are greatly mistaken. Power differences are as follows: the 1969 911T had 110hp while the 912 had 90hp (DIN horsepower rating for both engines). The 912 engine is actually a detuned 356SC engine; which had 100hp (the detune comes in the form of a choked up exhaust system, Porsche Marketing felt that there should be a larger difference in horsepower between their $4500 912 and the $6500 911 (1965 pricing). Aside from the slight horsepower difference the 912 also weighs 200 pounds less than its 911 counterpart.
1969 is the last and arguably the best year of the traditional Porsche 912. Being the last year, this car is equipped with many improvements from when the 912 was first introduced 5 years earlier. The 69, also known as “long wheel base”, had its rear wheels moved back 2.25” which greatly increased the high speed stability of the car. This new revised wheelbase became the new standard for all 911/912 cars for many years to come. The new design also added subtle fender flares which accept larger wheels and give a more aggressive, sportier appearance. Many people consider the long wheel base Porsches built from 1969 to 1973 to be the greatest driving cars ever built. Other revisions of the long wheel base include: completely revised front & rear suspension, revised heating/climate control system, revised transmission, major interior changes, and the 912 engine horsepower was reportedly increased to 100hp DIN.
This particular car was last in Nashville,Tn. Mileage reads 49,550 .This is a very dry car that has never seen much in the way of rain or snow. No rust can be found anywhere on the body . The floor pans have a little patch material on them. The front and rear suspension pans are rust free. The original color of the car is code 6802. An older paint job that will shine up very well. The tires are newer. The seats are leather. New original style perlon carpet was also installed.
The engine always ran strong, but now there is a problem. The engine needs work, it will start and run, but it is not running right at this time. I am not an expert, so I won't even attempt to guess why. I just don't have the time to complete this project. This car could be parted out for thousands, but I would like to sell it whole.
When dealing with vintage Porsches originality is king! This car is unmodified and it is the same as it was when new. The interior is as original as can be. Dash has not been modified and has no cracks. Most all of these cars do not have the correct door pockets and if the pockets are missing then it will cost at least $1000+ to have something similar to the ones on this car. All trim is original, nothing is missing and it does not have that blacked out trim look that was popular in the 80s. Engine is amazingly correct and is most likely the original unit to the car (I have no proof that it is the original engine - see pictures for number; it is a type 616/40 which is a 1969 engine). Please look at my detailed pictures and compare them to any other 912 you see advertised. You will see that this car is SWEET.
It has a set of new WEBBER carbs and way too many new parts to mention.
It comes with a Custom Italian Nardi Tourino wooden steering wheel, I also have the original Porsche steering wheel.
It also has new window regulators that come with it.
The carpeting and headliner are in great condition.
All the glass is in great shape, except for a very small rock chip, and it looks like a few scratches on the windshield.
Brand new Interstate battery.
It was backed into recently and sustained minor damage to headlight area ( see pics ). I will include a new headlight assembly and chrome ring with purchase.
I also have an extra, new, complete 69 Porsche carpet set and headliner for sale ( make offer ).
Thanks for looking.
