| This VW based PUMA GTE came over from Sao Paulo, Brazil as a "PALLET CAR".. NOT a KIT CAR. This has NEVER BEEN FINISHED ! 00007 kilometers ORIG. Sitting in garage (on the very back burner) 30+ YEARS ! It came off the assy line as a complete car, then suspension, motor, trans, & wheels were removed, then crated for transport,leaving as a completely wired body. This averted U.S.regulations and Cailif.smog laws at that time. LOW 46" roof height stock (w/o engine) full Puma guages (5-6k tach) w/senders. This 2 seat SPORTS CAR came into Port of Long Beach, then on to a Santa Ana warehouse that had a fire shortly after. It sustained some heat and smoke damage to paint, roof, and plastic lenses bubbled. ALL NEW RUBBER, CHROME, LENSES, & TRIM came from the PUMA FACTORY. ALL GLASS is fine. Forgot 2 get the front / rear window seals, & rear deck grilles. (still avail.here). I ran a VW shop at that time and installed a '68 reman.swingaxle assy, comp. NEW GHIA disc front end, special sway bar, & CORRECT PUMA 14" WHEELS. Orig.Pumas had 14x6 front,14x7 rear, but all 4 are MATCHING 14x7. As pictured, wheel centers have added 2 prong knockoffs. 2 metal remote sport mirrors (77 Mustang Cobra ) included that match the PUMA TUBARO mirrors, versus the orig. plastic. I made 2 mods to it:1-glassed in the exhaust cutout for a "no-show" system, & 2- added a power ant @ rear window base. Now that these are collectable, a Puma Purist may want to go back to original. WHATS LEFT TO DO? (Besides obvious prep/paint) : Interior (cut pile) carpet is in roll form.. EZ patterns from car to complete. Install rubber, plastic,& chrome trim, BUY: VW motor, w/clutch, battery, spare vw wheel, 2 window seals, 2 wiper arms, 2 plastic rear grilles, washer bottle (brittle) + a radio. As time has passed, front tires show age. Up graded upholstery materials, headliner, d/panels need finishing. Spent BIG $$ having seats + panels done up in gray body cloth / black vinyl. More (than needed) material was made up for h/liner, doors, and under trunk.(pic). Inspection hang-tag still on cig lighter! ALL PUMA SPECIFIC engine tin (ft/rear/curved side tins, doghouse, fan, heat boxes w/duct tubes for Puma body are incl.(used, but will powdercoat nicely).Co's. like: Small Car Specialties, Claudes Buggies in Farmersville, Ca. (Now known as CB Performance) marketed these bodies & the components separately, & as a pkg. Many VW magazines show Pumas over the years. In 1976, U.S.PUMAS started out at $4k for body, $7k base pkg, plus, plus..THIS CAN BE a SHOW CAR. RARE ! PUMA GTE's = 8,705 built (1970-1980) Total production for 1977 was 1,471. How many survivors? How many made it here? Vin on ID & pan matching (above) Body tags: 7254. While others are restoring old Pumas, they have just that. The end result on this would be a true NEW PUMA ! Brazillians TRUELY LOVE their PUMAS ! (YOU TUBE) car shows, views, & restorations. WHO HAS A NEW '77? DESIRABLE BODY STYLE ! The Puma GT is being recreated in SOUTH AFRICA based on an early model.
