1972 SAAB Sonett III
Up for auction is a rare little 2 seater sports car from SAAB It is a limited production car, #438 of 2000 for the 1972 model year. Saab Sonetts were produced in limited numbers from 1967 to 1974.
It features an Italian designed fiberglass body, pop-up headlights, a 1700 cc, V-4 engine, front wheel drive and a 4 speed manual transmission. Additionally it has a built-in factory installed roll-bar and cast alloy 15" wheels (4+spare).
The car is drivable and has had these recent improvements:
This car is in very good condition for 36 years old. It has the feel of being in an airplane cockpit due to Saab's aeronautic heritage. The body has a few small nicks and scrapes but nothing serious. One rear taillight lens is cracked, but since the same lens was used on the Saab 99's, it's not too hard to replace. The rocker panels which were repaired once before are showing signs of needed repair. The latch for the back hatch, although operable, needs a little work. It's difficult to open. The trunk floor is solid with only a little surface rust starting in the corners. The interior is nice, although the seats are fading and the lumbar supports are unattached. The aftermarket radio & antenna should probably be replaced. All-in-all a very sharp, rare sports car.
