1963 STUDEBAKER AVANTI (R-3 SETUP) DOES NOT HAVE R-3 ENGINE

I have re-listed this car due to some confusion over the engine.  This is a 1963 Studebaker Avanti (R-3 Setup). It does not have an R-3 engine.   Apologies to those people inconvenienced by cancelling earlier listing, but some areas of a live listing cannot be revised and this needed clarification.

Summary:  

I have had this car since 1986 and it took over 5 years to restore it.

This car has had a lot of love, sweat and tears put into it over the years and is in good condition.  I’m not happy at the thought of parting with it but I just don’t have the interest in the car anymore and ideally it should go to a home where it will be truly appreciated for the magnificent automobile it really is. This is a rare classic car and is a real head turner.

I am the fifth owner of this vehicle. To my knowledge It has always resided in California.

There is 15,900 miles on the speedometer.

The original engine that came with the car had more than 100,000 miles on the clock and was blown.  When I purchased this vehicle in 1986 it did not come with  the original engine. It came with a Studebaker 289 which I had rebuilt and had the engine over bored by .060.  When I had the engine rebuilt, the re-builder didn’t do the job to my specifications so I had that engine pulled at 14,000 miles.

The Second engine, (presently in the car and is not an R-3 Engine) I had it built up, bored .060 over sized. This engine has less than 2,000 miles on it.

This car has been always garaged from 1986 to the present. It has not been driven as often as I would have liked over the past 10 years, but it drives very comfortably still and one touch of the accelerator and this baby wants to fly! 

The following is a list of the work I have done on the car and/or original items I have kept but not put back on the car:

Differential rebuilt   3.73:1

New brake lines were formed out of Bundyweld tubing.  The brake fluid is Dot – 5  silicon base brake fluid, not glycerin based brake fluid, to prevent brake line rusting.

New gas line formed when the car was being restored. Made out of Bundyweld tubing.

Have Avanti/Studebaker side mirrors (right and left sides) that are not mounted on the vehicle. (included in this auction)

Have Plexiglass headlight covers (have original glass lenses, stored for safe keeping) (included in this auction) 

The car was stripped to base fiber glass, hand sanded and then repainted by the Golden Hammer in West Los Angeles and painted in the original color – Avanti Red.

The interior vinyl seats were replaced with red leather seats, and red leather interior panels and the inside is very clean. 

Second engine (Studebaker) is available, if interested in purchasing it separately. If you buy it, you’ll need to ship it from another location. (Not included in this auction)

Gas tank was boiled out, cleaned and resealed.

Transmission was rebuilt at the time the engine was rebuilt.

Replaced universal joints

The engine comes with a Carter AFB sealed Avanti (4 barrel) carburetor. The carburetor was purchased on line and rebuilt by Myers Studebaker in Ohio.  A very had to get item – Carter AFB

Supercharger is a Paxton supercharger. It’s a dual cog v-belt drive supercharger.

Aluminum Airbox

Replaced wiring harness with a new made to order wiring harness. Have the old one if you want it. (Included in this auction)

Original door panels comes with the car, if wanted.

Car instruments have been all been reconditioned.  Clock has been replaced with an electric clock. (Keeps far better accurate time than the old original) - clock was remanufactured by Williamson out of Arkansas.

Defects: 

Front and rear bumper need to be re-chromed.

Minor paint chips along side of car.

Car needs to be repainted – clear coat has disintegrated like most modern car paints.
