1951 Studebaker Business Coupe
This Studebaker was purchased from the original owner in 1973 when I was 18 years old. The car was completely restored in 1988 and was driven until put in storage in 1991. The fuel was drained, the engine cylinders were oiled and the battery removed. The Studebaker was moved to outdoor storage last year.
The upholstery, side panels, head liner and dashboard are all original and in perfect condition. It has a Philco six tube radio with a retractable antenna.
The trunk stretches over six feet from the tip of the back trunk to the original shelf. The original shelf is covered with the same material as the side panels and drapes behind the front bench seat. The material is all original and in excellent condition.
The Studebaker has the six cylinder champion engine with a standard three on the tree transmission with overdrive. The engine was completely rebuilt in 1988 and has very low mileage on it . The Studebaker has the original six volt electrical system. The brakes were gone through at the rebuild but as any vintage car they should be looked at before driving the car.
The body paint is starting to peel especially on the roof but there is only light surface rust in the peeling areas. The chrome is in very good condition and the bumpers were re-chromed at rebuild. There are no dents on the body.
The front windshield is cracked but the side windows and the back window is in very good condition. The side windows easily close and open.
This car is an excellent base for a project. With very little work the Studebaker could be brought up to excellent condition. The 1951 Studebaker bulletnose coupes certainly create interest and conversation wherever they go. This car is truly a classic piece of American automotive industry.
