This auction is for a 1955 Commander in great condition. It has been restored to drive and enjoy and should be considered not perfect, but near show quality with some TLC on your part. All of the major systems of the car work well and are original or reconditioned to work as they should.
The car has a Los Angeles assembled 259 V8 engine, 4 barrel Carter Carb, Dual exhaust, and shifts very nice on the column to its T86 overdrive transmission. The car has factory drum brakes and a hill holder for easy starts on an uphill grade.
The body is pretty solid since the car spent most of its life in Eastern Washington State, and has been repainted inside and out. The only rust noted was a small spot on the trunk weatherstrip grove, a few small areas in the front floor and an area behind the rt side grille. Most of the chrome has been redone, stainless mouldings were buffed , some show minor dings. The door weatherstrip, and trunk weatherstrip is new.
Lots of the electrical system was rewired, old light sockets replaced, non funtioning items like the radio, horns, starter, generator, defrost/heater motors , wiper motor, dome light, parking lights, headlights, ingnition switch and even the license light were all rebuilt, or replaced. The car has an ingnition key, trunk key, and door key. The windows all roll up and down, a Studebaker rarity.
Mechanically, the engine starts and runs STRONG, and for an old car it is not lacking any power. The brakes have been redone, and the front suspension was rebuilt like new with NOS parts to replace worn ones.. Under the hood has been detailed and new parts were used to replace anything questionable.
The interior is a nice start. The dash has been redone, guages refreshed/replaced, and some new chrome installed. The seats and the rear door panels need to get finished. Matching vinyl and cloth comes with the car if you decide to finish the seats and the rear door panels. There is also a new headliner installed and there is new windlace to install. The windshield has a crack, and there is one missing cowl top moulding. There in one NOS tailight housing to wire and install, I never did find the one for the other side. The body could use a final buff and wax as there are a few parts of the paintjob that have some orange peel, and light 1000 grit finish sanding marks. The overdrive is working intermitently, and may need attention. The backglass was out when the pictures were taken, it is INSTALLED NOW, as well as the new package tray (painted tan).
We tried to keep track of all of the receipts, and it is rare when ten grand gets spent on a 55 sedan. The receipts total right near that number and they do not show countless labor hours. Look at the pictures, and you decide what a bargain this car really is. I try to list my items to the best of my knowledge and this car is sold as is with no warranty written, implied or otherwise.

(all new hoses and ducts here too) Commanders come with 2 speed electric Windshield Wipers and Turn Signals.
Good luck on your bidding, the reserve has been lowered well below the market value.
