1970 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser
The FJ40 we are offering here is an original, unmolested truck. It is a very nice example of the early FJ40 Land Cruisers.
What is really amazing about this vehicle is that it is so original. No diamond plate, no V8 conversion, no fender flares, no bed liner, no holes in the tub. It is an original all steel body and top.
At the heart of it is the original, stock, Toyota in line OHV six cylinder displacing 237 cubic inches (135 HP at 3800 rpm) and plenty of torque (217 ft. lb. at 2000 rpm). The transmission is a three on the tree manual with a high and low range transfer case.
The engine is a strong runner and does not burn oil. The clutch, transmission and differentials work just as they should. No chatter or evidence of any other mechanical issue. The brakes operate as well as they did when they were new. The odometer shows about 28,000 miles but we have no way of verifying this.
The body is straight with no evidence of rust. The body is steel and appears to be original. There is no evidence of patch panels and the floors are as solid as when it was shipped. Not surprising considering it is an original Arizona truck that enjoyed life in a very dry climate.
The wheels are new Eagle alloy wheels with new Goodyear Wrangler RT/S (31x10.50 R15LT) tires all around. This is definitely a serious combination of wheels and tires that really sets off the striking color.
We have had the truck repainted to its original color of Sea Foam Green with a white roof. It has been painted inside and out. There is also new weather-strip and roof seal. The front seats are original while the rear jump seats have been reupholstered.
We have replaced the master cylinder, installed new visors, rear door struts, seat belts and rubber mats (that can be easily removed to wash out the inside).
The electrics have been checked and it has been sorted out mechanically. The engine compartment and underside are solid.
There is not really anything else that this exceptional original FJ40 needs. The classic styling and the striking Sea Foam Green paint is more than enough to garner its share of attention and thumb’s up.
If you are looking for a well sorted out FJ40, which is original and not modified, this is your Land Cruiser! They are becoming harder and harder to find.
