1978 Triumph Spitfire 1500 Hardtop/Convertible
Here is a great sporty British made 1978 Triumph Spitfire with just over 66000 original miles. 4 cylinder (1500cc) 4 speed; this one is ready for some Summer fun. The vehicle has both the removeable hard top and the folding soft top, so it is ready for all season driving. Get ready for some Good Times and great gas mileage. Details: This vehicle has been driven very little since a fresh and complete rebuild of the engine. It has a new clutch and fuel pump also. The tires are excellent. The hard top can be removed during the warm driving season and the integral folding soft top can be used as needed. The ragtop has not been raised in a while so I am not sure of its condition. I will try to get some pics posted on this sale page so that you may view. The paint is not original. The previous Owner had opted for a new paint color. It is a very decent paint job. The car is rust free (no bondo) except for a bit of surface rust here and there. The areas where there is surface rust (through the paint) are in more remote spots where it is generally not visible. It is a solid little car and the doors close well with no drop or sag. The dual exhaust is in good condition. It has a newer Tan interior; good shape. Clean Indiana title. CONDITIONS: - The windshield wiper motor is not hooked up and I am not sure if it is working
- Gas gauge does not work
- The right front brake caliper is sticking. The car has been sitting (stored inside) since last Summer and it may work itself loose.
- The Body does some minor dings in it here and there. I have tried to capture the areas in the pics.
- I believe that the dashboard has a crack in it. I will double check on this. 5/14: Yes there is a crack in the vinyl dash a shown in the pic.
Description addenda 5/14/08Since the initial sale offering, I have made the following observations on the Vehicle condition: - A close inspection of the Soft Top indicated that it is in good overall condition, but the clear window plastic (rear and side windows) are yellowed from sun exposure
- The left front headlight bezel has been jeryrigged with non-stock screws and fasteners.
- The rear bumper appears to have been re-chromed.
- The repaint is all right but not of Show quality. It does have some flaws.
- The weatherstripping around both doors is loose. It looks to me that it could be reattached with some type of Glue or Auto adhesive.
