[ Restoration ] - The owner purchased this car locally (in Akron) about 12 years ago. For the first 6 years, he enjoyed it, and drove it just the way it was when he bought it. After that, he decided to restore it, which took the next 3 years. After that, he went back to driving and enjoying it on special occasions. The car was completely disassembled and received a frame off restoration. The frame itself was sand blasted. In the back (in front of the rear trailing arms), there were 2 pieces that had a little bit of perforation. The body was taken down, blasted down to bare metal, then prepped and painted, it was all professionally done by local shop (who is well known for high quality work). New steel panels were cut and fit to make it look original. The rear quarters, 2 front fenders, and one of rockers were also replaced. The doors and the other rocker did not show any rust – he installed all new metal where there was rust perforation. After that, the frame was completely painted. The trailing arms are cast aluminum, and the floor pans are all original (and are good and solid). The brake lines were completely replaced from the master cylinder to each wheel with copper nickel alloy tubing. The transmission is a 4 speed with a 3.55 rear end. When it was disassembled and inspected, there weren’t any marginal or worn parts, so new fluids were installed (as well as new gasket material), and put back together. Overall, the owner and his professional helpers did a fantastic job inspecting, rebuilding, and restoring this car. It looks fabulous, and not like something you’re afraid to drive. The owner performs the maintenance himself so there are no copies of service records. The following items are included in the sale: · Original air cleaner and valve cover (they have been powder coated) · Retractable seat belt parts · AM/FM radio with cassette · Steering wheel hub (the owner is trying to find original steering wheel; if he finds it, it will be included) · Original front springs (smaller) · New springs purchased for back (larger) · Original Tonneau cover · Convertible top and boot · Photo album of restoration photos DETAILS OF CAR: [ Paint ] – The paint looks great - very smooth and glossy. It all matches well and does not seem to show any wear. It looks clear of defects or dirt in the paint, and there are no traces of orange peel, etc. If you look inside the trunk, the trunk jam shows the original paint color and you can see how well it matches. The paint on the sides measures about 8-9 thousands, and the top is about 12-14, which is quite common in a repaint situation. [ Body ] – The body is really nice – it looks straight and correct (see the photos of the gaps and fits on the doors, hood, and trunk). It looks just as you would have expected it to look new. It looks free of nicks except for a couple of small nicks on the back of the doors (see pictures). All of the lenses seem to be in mostly original condition with very little wear. There is a small ½" broken-out section on the right rear tail light. After going over the body with a paint gauge and magnet, we could not find any detection of filler (that would indicate anything less than all steel replacement or repair). It seems very solid and in good shape. [ Top ] – The top is about 2-3 years old, and has not had much exposure. It looks about as close to new as you can imagine. The vinyl is soft and supple, and the rear window is nice and clear. It you left the top up in the sun, it would stretch out the wrinkles and smooth it out. [ Trunk ] – Inside the trunk, there is an original, 72 spoke, wire wheel, much like the wheels on the car (which are about a year old). The mat is new and was purchased when the carpet was installed – it matches the mats in the car. The floor pan is good and solid, and is original, according to the owner. He did not replace it during the restoration, as it looked to be in good shape. [ Chrome/Bright Work ] – The front bezels around the head lights and fog lamps are all in nice condition. The chrome on all 4 wire wheels looks new. The front bumper is beginning to age – there are a couple of dings on the front edge (see photos). The back bumper is nice and straight; and lines up well. There is some light pitting and wear, but overall, it looks good and shows well. [ Glass ] – Overall, the glass looks good. It seems free of bulls eyes or cracks. The front windshield was replaced during the restoration. There are multiple, light scratches on the back edge of the driver’s window. [ Interior ] – The dash is all original, although the wood has been refinished. The side panels and seat covers are also original. They are in great shape and show very little wear. They are nice and soft (not dried out) and the stitching looks good. (Note: the owner does have the head rests). The seats and seat belt latches are also original and still wired into the "fasten seat belt" light on the dash (and it still works!). The seat belts are a non-retractable, but the retractable seat belt parts are included in the sale. The carpet looks almost new and does not show wear. The speedometer, odometer, and tachometer seem to be working correctly as do the temperature, oil, volt, and fuel gauges. The oil pressure when running at around 1500 RPM is 30 pounds when warm. At 60 M.P.H., it runs around 3000 RPM, with about 50-52 pounds of pressure. The volt meter reads around 14 volts. Most cars are equipped with a standard cable hood release on the driver’s side – but if they break, you can’t pop the hood. This car has an emergency, back-up hood release rod under the glovebox area. [ Tires and Wheels ] – The car has Dean Quasar Plus steel belted tires, size 205 /70 R15. The 4 tires on the car have about 500 miles on them, and the one in the trunk is new! It has never been on the ground. The wheels are also "new" with 500 miles on them. [ Mechanical ] – The car steers quick and correct, just as it should. It is very smooth. When braking, you do not feeling any pulling or pulsating – it seems to brake correctly. The calipers were also completely rebuilt at that time, as well as the rear cylinders (the car has front disk and rear drum brakes). The engine starts and runs well, as it should. The transmission appears to be functioning properly and working well, as is the rest of the drive train. The following items did not seem to be working when Chad drove the car: · Blower motor - when you turn on the heat, the natural air flow gives you heat anyway · The dash light’s rheostat was bypassed because it was not working. Although it was bypassed, the lights are at higher setting but are still not too bright. This did not seem to create a problem. · Seat belt buzzer was disconnected because it was annoying to the owner but can be reconnected. [ Engine ] – When you look at the engine compartment, you can see it was just impeccably done – it is just beautiful. The owner added the stainless steel piece in place of the standard shrouding for the fan. It really dresses it up and makes it much more durable; as the original was more like a cardboard material. There was no need to rebuild the engine, as the compression was fine. It was reassembled with new gasket material, including the pan (which was pulled off and inspected first), as well as: · Valve job · Rebuilt the heads · Zenith Stromberg carburetors were bead blasted and completely rebuilt · K and N air cleaners (life time air cleaner system) · Also, other bright work (alloy valve cover, etc) was added [ Drive Train ] – During the restoration, the rear end was disassembled, and all parts inspected. New gaskets and fluids were installed and then it was put back together. The rear axles and drive shaft all have new universals. It also has new boots. The wear type bushings on the front and rear were replaced with eurothane. The drive train does have the original lever shocks. The front shocks are tube type and are new. The rears have the original lever style, and work fine. The clutch was inspected and has at least 75% left, so it was not replaced, but he did install a new clutch slave cylinder. The radiator was replaced about 1 year ago with an original OEM style radiator. [ Suspension ] – The car has new springs in the front and new tube shocks. The owner put new springs in the rear, but it set up the back of car too high, so he went back to original ones. The car also has a Monza exhaust system, with 4 outlets in the rear. It really enhances the looks and sounds great. |
