In the summer of 1975 my newlywed wife and I acquired our first of many, many Volvos.  I still regret selling that ’67 122S and know I’ll feel the same when this exceptional 244 GL four-door is loaded on the truck or the lucky new owner flies in to begin an early spring road trip home!   Our wholesale dealership bought this sedan from one of the remarketing companies we deal with and I knew immediately it would be my daily driver!  I’ve cruised around in it almost everyday for several weeks now.  If you’ve looking for a minty, well-kept, reliable Volvo 240 series – this is absolutely the ride for you!  My name is Mark Thompson and my direct number is 206/914-1173.  Feel free to contact me anytime with questions or to discuss a purchase of this unique car before the auction ends. 

This Volvo was a clean CARFAX report.  That means there is absolutely NO history of accidents, flood damage, salvage, rebuilds or other nasty negatives.  The report also backs-up the low 112,000 miles by showing a consistent reporting of mileage when emissions were tested.   I’ll furnish a copy to the new owner and will transfer the CARFAX Buyback Guarantee into their name at the time of sale.  As an eBay Powerseller with many satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that this car runs and drives as it should and that it is being properly represented to you!

CONDITION:

The photos really do tell the Volvo’s story.  When it came to us, I felt it was in such superior original condition a detail wasn’t even necessary.  What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only!  The exterior has its original reddish-brown metallic paint with only a few scratches here and there.  I find NO evidence of any bodywork or repainting.  All the glass is original with no cracks or pitting.  The chrome trim and emblems are bright and shiny.  I’ve always liked the unique GL alloy wheels and these are straight and true with at least 75% rubber.  You can hand crank open the (non-leaking) sunroof smoothly!  We’ve made no attempt to paint or update the remarkably clean engine compartment and the photos clearly show the trunk with its original spare and jack.

Rust?  Please!  Cars here in the Pacific Northwest hate body rust and I find NO evidence of any here!  Yes, we get a bit of drizzly rain, but hardly ever any snow so our winter roads are never salted.  Feel free to climb over, under and around this nice GL  - I know you’ll come up smiling!   By the way, our investigation shows there’s been only two owners and that it’s been here in the Tacoma area since it first arrived more than 20 years ago in fall of 1987.

Please take another good look at the interior.  The original fabric upholstery on the seats is in superior condition – no tears or wear-through spots.  No need to look for door panels or carpeting – they are all very clean and original.   I’m quite impressed with the condition of the dash gauges too.  They’re about as clear and bright as the day this sedan left the factory in Sweden back in the summer of ‘84!  A newer Panasonic CD radio has been installed in the usual dash location and works great.  The power windows all roll up and down smoothly and the power doorlock system never fails.

Mechanically the car is in very good shape.  1984 was the last year Volvo’s 2.3 liter L4 engine had a forged crankshaft and, as most all Volvophiles know, they’ve proven to be the best of bullet-proof motors (literally!).  After driving it everyday, I can tell you that this car freeway accelerates to 70 MPH just as it should and that the brakes feel just fine.  It also starts from cold at about the first crank.  The Automatic Transmission doesn’t slip and shifts through all the gears properly.  So, if you are in the market for an all original, well-kept Volvo 240 series, please give this car your kind consideration!  About the only negatives I can think to point out are: the factory installed clock doesn’t keep accurate time; there’s some cracks on the top of the dash caused by the sun; and the exposed areas of carpet have faded just a tiny bit from new – though you’ll never know because the molded carpet protectors cover the still perfect carpet material beneath!

We accept PAYPAL for the deposit only because of the high fees they charge.  The balance is due by cash or certified funds within five days unless prior arrangements have been made.   Remember, you’re bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract! You’re not bidding to hold, inspect or then come test-drive the vehicle later!  You are more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.  Non-paying bidders will be subject to legal action to recover lost monies.  All costs of transport to the purchaser’s location are the responsibility of the purchaser.  I’m more than happy to store the car in our warehouse for a few days after the sale and will always help coordinate pickup and loading with the transporter you choose.

Additional Terms and Requirements:

The Buyer will be responsible for his own Licensing Requirements in their state of residence. Washington State buyers will need to pay the required 9.1% sales tax, title preparation, transfer and registration fees. Because the Volvo is advertised and for sale locally, we reserve the right to cancel this auction early if it’s no longer available for sale online.

Be advised that because this isn’t a new car it may have or could develop issues at any moment.  Though I strive to give as accurate a description as possible, I can't guarantee that every physical defect or flaw has been discovered so the car is being sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied.  Having said all of that, I know of no reason the Volvo couldn’t be driven cross-country tomorrow!

The State of Washington shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all disputes. Venue shall be exclusively in King County. The final contract signed between both buyer and seller shall be binding. The final signed contract and terms thereof shall govern the sale. All disputes arising out of or relating to this auction, any negotiations, the signed agreement, or to the breach, enforcement or interpretation thereof, shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Washington, in accordance with the terms contained in the final sale agreement and under the laws of the State of Washington.
