For auction is my much appreciated V8 240 Volvo cruiser, the ultimate one of a kind sleeper.
Dressed in nice metallic black paint, 17" wheels and a very nice Ford 302 (5.0L) V8 with extractors, C4 Transmission, this car is very unique, quick and sounds super mean.
The GOOD:
- V8 was reconditioned in 2002 and is running beautifully, idles nicely and goes like a cut snake when needed. Running Holley carb and extractors (reciepts for engine rebuild available)
- Running on LPG - very easy on the wallet
- Sensibly lowered KING SPRING performance suspension, rides very firm and corners like on rails.
- 17" wheels fitted with low profile performance tyres (front 70%, rear 50%)
- Kenwood CD player
- Very hot black paint, was done a few years back so it has the occasional imperfection but is still very nice.
- Nicely prepared ingine bay with chromed trims
- All engineers paperwork for engine conversion.
- A perfect combination of PERFORMANCE and SAFETY in a very DURABLE car.
Overall this car would cost well over 15K to build to this spec, my asking price would only cover the cost of the V8 conversion - essentially the car, performance suspension, motor, LPG conversion, black metallic paint etc are free.
I have owned this car for less than a year and done less than 5000kms and in that time I have fully serviced her, changed oil/filter twice.
Please bear in mind the car is 25 years old and is not perfect, there are a variety of very small imperfection that are to be found on any such car. The car is extremely straight and the following are the main areas that an enthusiast would want to address:
- 3 small rust holes in the floor a little larger than 50 cents (I have removed the carpets and carefully stored them as this was to happen soon) my volvo mechanic has quoted me $300-$400 for welding in stainless plates.
- The cause of the rust - the front windscreen appears to leak a small amount during rain, so before the carpets are replaced the windscreen should be removed and replaced.
- There is a very small area where rust on the lower front RHS w/screen has started - this is smaller than a 5 cents piece and easily repaired when the w/screen in taken out.
- The vacuum operated transmission kickdown requires adjustment, as between 2nd and 3rd there is a delay changing.
- Occasionally when fully loaded and under power when the car goes over a good bump a slight rub on the driveshaft can be heard - My volvo mechanic has inspected under the car and I believe this is of no consequence.
- The interior is generally good and in original condition, however the dash is cracked (not visible under dash cover) and the driver seat was replaced with one from another car of different colour and the cloth removed from the old seat and put on the replacement.
At my BUY IT NOW price the rust in floor and windscreen along with leak testing will be repaired prior to pick up, as will the transmission adjustment. In as is condition, which mind you is very presentable and driveable, I am a little negotiable.
As with any car - please arrange an inspection to your satisfaction.
Why am I selling my most enjoyable car?
I am a volvo collector and I now have a 242GT auto, a 242GT manual, an 87 740 turbo wagon, a 73 164E and 2 240 estates (plus dismantling a 740 and a 264GLE). I would like to spend some money restoring my 242GT's so either I sell the V8 or one of my GT's. Basically if I cannot get a fair price for the V8 I will keep her to enjoy and sell one of my 242GT's.
10% Deposit required withing 72hrs and balance within 2 weeks.
Good luck. Please don't hesitate to ask questions or send me your phone number if you would like me to call you.
